Description
Illustration of a "Deep One" for my Lovecraft bestiary."I think their predominant color was a greyish-green, though they had white bellies. They were mostly shiny and slippery, but the ridges of their backs were scaly. Their forms vaguely suggested the anthropoid, while their heads were the heads of fish, with prodigious bulging eyes that never closed. At the sides of their necks were palpitating gills, and their long paws were webbed. They hopped irregularly, sometimes on two legs and sometimes on four. I was somehow glad that they had no more than four limbs. Their croaking, baying voices, clearly used for articulate speech, held all the dark shades of expression which their staring faces lacked ... They were the blasphemous fish-frogs of the nameless design - living and horrible."
H.P. Lovecraft, The Shadow Over Innsmouth

The narrator finds, in a sort of epilogue, after he alerts the authorities and they deal with the Innsmouth people, that he is also a Deep One, and his face begins to - change.
He knew of an uncle who shot himself and so died a human, but for most, as the Change progresses, they - welcome it !
Farewell to sanity & humanity ! Hello, cannibalism !

You have the best interpretation of a Deep One I've ever seen. I think the amazing thing is how natural the combination of frog, fish, and man looks. I'm blown away.

Few people can pull off the fish/frog/man combination like what you just did, I am impressed.

I really like the underwater feel in this one and the more alien rather than fish like design works very well. Excellent job.

Do you plan to draw Lord Dagon or Mother Hydra? Because this Deep One is absolutely perfect

I'd say you matched the description pretty well. @_@ Definitely looks like a scary blasphemous fish-frog to me! I wouldn't wanna get near that thing. XD
Great work!

First a gug, now a glug (as in "Glug, glug..."). Your incredible attention to fleshing out HPL's words would please him. And we would have had photos of him, gasp, SMILING!

great work, my only comment of critique is that the text seems to describe a more amphibian or fish skin, while the skin you gave this deep one seems more desert lizard. either way, looks better than i can produce.

Subtle yet quite effective! I like the gesture of it looking upwards, as it makes me think of someone overhead perhaps swimming or boating- completely unaware of what looms below. The soft and muted tones helps give it the murky silty underwater feel.
