HOOO BOI working on this character has been a r i d e- Thanks to my emotional state from school and the like, I actually nearly quit working on this boi three times, almost deleting him.
But I'm so absolutely glad I stuck with it. Special mention to hoz-boz , MrGwynplaine , breecheesesins , Sil3ntReign and MissMinia for keeping me sane while working on this guy. Y'all should check them out, they're all amazing people that I'm proud to call friends.
All that aside, this is yet another DnD character without a game. I'm starting to accept that I have a problem with these now whoops- This boi though... god I love him. He's based off of Lovecraft's Reanimator story (More based off the book than the movies, as much as I adore them) as well as having his "Dog" basically being a Tindalos Hound. I love eldritch based things so much and this boi holds a very special place in my heart <3
Ozwin Lapent is a travelling doctor that seeks out the weak and the dying to heal them or keep them company in their final days respectively. He has a keen interest in death, seeking to eventually discover a way around it.
After the death of a close colleague to him, he went through book after book, tome after tome trying to find a solution to death. He had attempted wizardry and necromancy, but just didn't have the skill needed to perform the hand motions, and often tripped over the words for the spells. So, he eventually turned to his last resort, contacting an undying being to learn it's secrets and means around death. It accepted, forming a deal with him, yet never informing Ozwin of the price he would pay.
Being a pact of the blade warlock, he gains a weapon created from his patron's magic. In his case, his "weapon" takes the form of surgical tools, either an amputation knife, bone saw and even sometimes a scalpel depending on what he needs. On his person he also keeps a batch of needles containing healing potions, regular non-magical scalpels and a hand-crank bonesaw. As he heals a person using his pact weapons, he can treat them using his patron's magic. Additionally... once he gets strong enough, he will be able to operate on the dead, bringing them back to life using his patron's magic, though they're never quite the same as they were in life, becoming hideous eldritch zombies. (Which will be drawn later) By that point though, Ozwin won't be the same hopeful doctor as he is now, seeing the changes as just a side effect of the treatment, and eventually, he'll even consider them improvements on their previous form.
The hound that accompanies him is one that has stalked him in the background since the initial deal was made, eventually approaching him and showing that it was passive, and there to protect Ozwin from harm. At least... he hopes that's what it's goal is. He's never been quite sure what the abomination wants. To try and get more comfortable with it, he's named it "Not-Dog".
I've uh- had a lot of time and a lot of help thinking about him o0o Even though he's been difficult to complete, he's been kinda therapeutic to brainstorm about too. I've been thinking about him a lot in my off-time and been listening to a playlist I've made for him all week. I hope you all love him as much as I do~
