Description
Well, here it is. The horse colouring tutorial. And it was LONG. I got the actual picture done days ago. This ended up 4 parts long as I didn't make a long enough file.
Thanks for the encouragement though, without it I would never have got this done. It is detailed yes, right down to the fetlocks.

I'm having a problem with step 3...wow I got so far fail. I've quadruple-checked I've done everything right and I have view of both layers but...when they're both on I can't see the colour over the lines, and when I view only the coat colour layer I can see the colour...but not the lines! Please help?

I assume your working in GIMP.
The background (lineart) layer should be on top. Layers are displayed with the bottom layer underneath everything else, the top layer on the top.
Does the lineart layer have a white background?

the mane and tail cause teh msost problems when you don't have a tablet
although, i am experimenting with the paths tool; it makes it take ages, but you get an effect close to the one you et when using a tablet it might just be easier to nick my brothers tablet though

It is easier with a tablet but I've seen many a person do great art without one. I find it easier personally but it depends. If I'm dealing with photos and the like, I find a mouse easier. Like all those screenshots for example, they were done by mouse.
I used to use the path tool and I find it gave a smoother line than when I drew it with a tablet. I just need practice.
Advised. ¬_¬

Wow, digital art is complicated. I didn't know about the opacity-brush thingy.
