No prob, give it an industrial scene global and it will completely rock!

flaketom In reply to Technohippy [2011-03-05 11:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I really should do it! This one I rendered with Indigo. But I should do another version in Kerkythea, although making global scene don't really work. Can't import global settings which I downloaded from the internet... Dunno. Possibly haven't tried enough...

Technohippy In reply to flaketom [2011-03-05 12:29:17 +0000 UTC]

if you are downloading hdr's from somewhere like hdr labs its a slightly different method to installing a default kerkythea global.

forgive me if you've tried this already but...

If you start by inserting one of kerkytheas globals (useful for some of the settings) and then go to the 'settings' 'sun/sky...' and press the 'skip (sun already exists)' button. you'll find yourself in the 'adjust sky' dialog

make sure the sky type is 'spherical sky' and click on the the block next to 'map/colour' this brings up a browse box where you can insert any sort of images... including hdr's. excellent!

if you haven't already tried it hdrlabs [link] have some excellent hdrs that work this way.

hope that helps

The first thing I thought was 'Where can I buy this???' I think it looks awesome. I wish my renders would be as convincing, whether as a real person or a toy.

flaketom In reply to MechaTrav [2010-04-28 19:27:32 +0000 UTC]

Nah, your renders are great! It's just more difficult to do scenes, especially with people in it!
Your stuff is awesome, I wish I could do stuff like that!
I just used them default settings...

El-Bronco [2010-04-27 05:03:05 +0000 UTC]

If I can criticize, the shield somehow it's look like roof top. Maybe a little bend here and there will create unique shape.
Above that, it still fantastic work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

flaketom In reply to El-Bronco [2010-04-27 08:15:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. But the shield is meant to be a cut out part of an container, sooo...
Or is it that what you meant?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

El-Bronco In reply to flaketom [2010-04-27 10:07:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, dunno how to write object with shape like that in English

Silverlion [2010-04-27 03:42:24 +0000 UTC]

Awesome. I think my only concern is it needs some "aging", smudging of the colors, stains from oil, the graffiti on the shield is too new. Needs some aging there too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

flaketom In reply to Silverlion [2010-04-27 08:14:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that it needs for sure! But I have absolutely no clue hwo to do them. Can't use Indigo and I'm really bad in Photoshop... Soooo.

Rob-Cavanna [2010-04-27 03:21:21 +0000 UTC]

Whoa, if you didn't say this was a 3D model, I totally would have believed it was a scale model, as mentioned by others above. So maybe this isn't the effect you were aiming for, but it still looks very cool!

Hopefully, guys like Kodiak can steer you in the right direction...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

flaketom In reply to Rob-Cavanna [2010-04-27 08:18:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks and now that they mentioned it, I can also see the scale model thing. Hmmm, Not what I meant to do, but also nice. Will try the HDR thing.
Oh and as I haven't come back on your collab crit: I'll work on it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rob-Cavanna In reply to flaketom [2010-04-27 14:33:24 +0000 UTC]

At least now you know how to do a perfect model effect, right?
No worries about the collab. You've obviously been putting a lot of work in, so if you need breaks, that's totally understandable. I can be very demanding in terms of crit and direction...

just ask ! He did an amazing job on that Russian mech, no? That's really going to push me to do a good job on the collab mech's final color...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

flaketom In reply to Rob-Cavanna [2010-04-28 13:33:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, now I know it...
And there is definitley no problem at all with your crits. It's good to have one, who knows what he wants and whose as patient as you!
The Russian mech is really great! set some high standarts. Will hope I'll come close to them.

Rob-Cavanna In reply to flaketom [2010-04-28 15:27:09 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Sure do know what I want. Most of the time I'm critiquing myself just as hard.

Yeah, I really appreciated the work and creativity Adam put in. He made the idea REAL. I can learn so much just by looking at what he did. He was the right guy for the job.
