Description
finally finished... reckon it took about 20 hours altogether. gel pens, A4.Birthday present for a friend, says 'happy birthday phil' in there, believe it or not... decided to leave the two white circles, but may change my mind and fill them in, can't decided which would look best.
if anyone can come up with a title i like, that would be great - i'm useless with titles.
hope you like
*have now resized it, hope its easier to see the whole thing in full view*

One of the most captivating psychedelic drawings i've ever seen. Instantly became my desktop background ^_^
I like the white circles, i wouldn't recommend coloring them

At a first glance my impression is--wow, that must have taken ages--after reading your description it is--wow, with gel pens that must have taken aeons. On a final and more thorough look, it is a gorgeous piece (I've yet to be able to discern the Happy Birthday Phill part but oh well). Great work!

Thank you, it's always nice when people can appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into a piece like this. I'm glad you like it, I think it's still my favourite of what I've done so far, even though it was done a while ago and I've done quite a bit since...

Nope, grew quite fond of the white circles... They give the eye a resting point I think.
What do you reckon?

i wouldn't leave the circles white if i were you! i wouldn't fill them in with the red or blue either! i have been looking at this and i think maybe it would look best filled in completely black! both of them, but i actuallt realy dont like the bare circles of white at all. but DAMN! that is incredible im blown away by everything else! *high five*

Absolutely amazing!
I really love the unity of colours here. And shapes! so twisted liquid magma that my eyes turn around and I can see my brains... oh they are there on the paper already!
Those 2 white spots are good. I'd keep them there. I know how satisfying it can be to get the whole paper full so it might sometimes be hard to leave any white on the paper but sometimes big blank areas of 1 colour may work wonders for the overview in this type of pictures.
Keep up the good work. A3 size next? (then a2, a1, your rooms walls, floor... etc!

Thank you Yes I'm glad I left the two white spots - I did this piece a while ago and have now given it away so filling the spots is no longer an option! But I don't regret it, I find it gives the eye something to rest on amongst all the 'twisted liquid magma' as you put it (interesting interpretation by the way!) A3, A2...? would love to, hopefully in the near future when I have more time to focus on my art... as for walls - have always dreamt of doing a mural, and recently painted a wall in my art class. Will be putting up a photo of it soon.
Thanks for adding me to your friends list, much appreciated! Welcome to DA, looking forward to seeing some more of your work

I'm looking forward to that photo! Patience is everything when drawing etc. Although big living mainlines are important it's still like a flower not yet in it's full glory. And that glory is made with details

This is so enjoyable!!! It vibrates in part due to the flashing colours - blue & orange, pulsating away...
"Phunky Philly" is what came to mind...
The white "bubbles" stay - allows for some focal points to play with...
...that's a lot of gel pen ink... What are the piece's actual dimensions?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
floofty87 In reply to kidkrayon [2005-06-26 06:47:10 +0000 UTC]
yes, it is a lot of gel pen ink, took a long long time, despite the fact the piece is quite small - A4 (roughly 30cm by 21cm). I have decided to leave the white 'bubbles', partly because of facal points, as you pointed out, and partly because I liked the randomness of them. Still have not decided on a title though, maybe one day...
Thanks a lot for the comment and fav

Yep the 'birthday' is the easiest part to find, nobody ever finds the 'happy' cos its too abstract. This did take a long, long time but I did it almost entirely all in lessons, so if your lessons are boring enough, you probably do have the time to do something like this thanks for the comment
