Description
I am officially done with them and I couldn't be happier with the result...I do notice that the front shoe's coloring looks distorted because of the light source so please excuse that. :/
I also decided to scrap the helmet-on-the-tongue idea because I didn't want to take the chance of them possibly messing up. All is left to do is heat-set them and then they're ready to wear.
Apple Barrel paints mixed with Golden Mediums GAC-900 fabric painting medium.
total working time: a little under 20 hours.

Wow I'd buy them
This is truly amazing, I love it.
I also have old but nearly unworn Chucks at home and I'm thinking about painting them... But sth like this is impossible for me; I wish I was just half as good in drawing Loki as you
So, really good work, love it, love it, love it

Aw, if you can't paint them, why don't you print him on some iron-on transfer paper and then stick him on there? It's an easier (and faster) way of doing it. Thanks, though. I appreciate it.

Ah, well there you go!
Yeah, I know what you mean, I'm the same way. I like the satisfaction of knowing I painted them by hand without taking an easier route.

Do you use a sort of sealant after you're done painting? Or are you just really careful when you wear them?

As I stated in the artist's comment, I use a special medium.

sorry, i'm not familiar with that type of paint & i wasn't sure if you still needed something extra on top.

It's ok, it's a mixture you add to the paint that turns it into a fabric medium.

How much would a pair of these cost? I must have them! DD

GeeFreak In reply to The-Joker-606 [2013-07-20 02:54:36 +0000 UTC]
I don't plan on making another pair exactly like this since I want to have something for myself but I do charge around $265 for regular converse, vans, or whatever pairs to be painted. Something of this magnitude (total custom converse) would be around $200 for the portrait paint job alone. The cost of getting the custom converse made itself is separate.

I am interested in some Loki vans. How much do you charge? I understand that it will cost some big $$$ since it is hand painted. If you can give me a price then I can start saving up some cash.

How could you possibly achieve such perfection on a shoe?
It makes me want to try..but i know I'll just disappoint myself
These must be the most amazing shoes in the world, how did you find blending working on the canvas? Do you think normal acrylics would work?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GeeFreak In reply to acjub [2013-06-01 19:01:29 +0000 UTC]
lol, thanks so much hon.
I'm sure you can do just as good!
Well technically I did use acrylic paint but I just added a fabric-painting medium. Normal acrylics will work (because I used normal acrylics for my avengers pair) but the medium made it easier to work with. It wasn't as thick and it adheres to the shoe way better than regular acrylic. It also doesn't leave the fabric as stiff as it would if you used regular acrylic. And no cracking.

I actually do commissions for them but they're pricey- not too many people want them anyway. I'm fine with it- the only pair I planned to make like this anyway lol.

I used any kind of acrylic paints that i had, which were Apple Barrel. But once I added the medium to the paint, i noticed it made the paint easier to work with and blend.
