I do some portraits from time to time, mainly for a magazine I shoot for (OTOT is it's name, and it's for marketing and advertising). This is Shoni Rivnai, one of the owners of an Advertising agency in Israel (Bauman Ber Rivnai). I wanted to take his picture in a surrounding to best tell who he is. Other than his day job, he is an accomplished artist and painter, so I asked to take his picture in his loft, where he paints. When I saw his own self portrait, he just finished, it was obvious to me what I should do. I love this one very much.

When I look at this image i first try to see which one looks happier... the man or his own vision of himself... and i really cant decide. Seems his portrait is more genuine in expression and in reality he is a bit more shy and modest!

Very nice.
I like the use of selective focus and your decision to bring his leg, hand and cigarette inside the focal range. Adds just that right amount of depth to set him off from the image on the wall.

I went away from the image not really liking it that much. Well, i mean, i did like it, but it didnt strike me.
Its funny, the last few days its been coming to the forefront of my mind, and although i cant quite place it, i think it is because of the rich character you have captured with the frame.
