Its good they are there. To be honest I really dont like exploating the land. My heart breaks down when I need to chop off those tries..I wish there were a nature loving character in Dont Starve...Now they are ALL like :Take that nature, I won with that tree etc. xD
But I guess it would be niecer if you could plant them previous to prevnet Treegourds, you know what I mean?

It's probably because they are mostly city characters and also it makes more comic when they say those silly things. My favorite is WX-78 since his souless quotes are the best, he would surely say to you:

I too find trouble with destroying everything around the base... Not good if you want to survive for long time. Its like in real life, sustainable development ftw. I only cut fully mature Pinetrees, they give 2 cones wisch should double the number of treees on land.Β

For every tree I do chop, and dig up, I plant all the pinecones. But then it gets to the point that there's just too many.

I just have it kill some pigmen and then he just sorta roams around, I named him Murphy

I have about 10 walking around my world... there was one more, but the pigmen didn't like it in their village so they gang killed it. >XD

Thankfully, they don't seem to be tooΒ bothered by a burning forest. But God forbid if you start hacking at a live tree...
