Description
More TEF artThe original idea was quagga stripes and Eucladoceros antlers, but the quagga stripes didn't look quite right, so it ended up with dapple-stripes.

That creature scares me, but at the same time I'm fascinated with him/her! It's completely beautiful and mysterious.

This one really intrigues me, it reminds me of a fantasy novel I read long ago about the Horned King or something... an old English children's classic...was it The Dark is Rising?... I think they spoke of a being like that...

That's right, The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper wasn't it? It mixed the legend of Herne the Hunter with the Sorceror of Trois Freres [link]
I read the whole sequence on the urging of a friend many years ago, and loved them.

Hollywood tried turning it into a movie. It was not a good result! Which was sad, because the actors did their best and the settings were lovely.

Thank you! I loved that movie.
If you like cool yet creepy deer, check out The Endless Forest group on dA. There's some incredible artwork there, which helped inspire this piece.

I know what you mean. I love the night forest for that very reason. It's the origin of the word 'panic'

I would say "I love you" BUT I think that goes a little too far.
But you get the point.
This is deep..

I'm sure I've seen a eucladoceros species that had branch-thicket antlers just like the forest spirit in Princess Mononoke... maybe it was inspired by these extinct deer too.
They are awesome either way. I wish we could see them alive. Thank you!

Ahh cool, I'm usually keen on prehistoric animal and knew there were several unique deer or ungulate varieties but never knew the name, specifically Eucladoceros. I had to look it up and came across this very cool scientific document [link]

Ooh, that looks interesting. Thanks for the link!
I recently came across an article on the diversity of extinct pronghorn antelope species which was an an eye opener. Some of their horns are very antlery, and there's one species where one horn is always much larger than the other. I also never knew that pronghorns won't/can't jump. [link]

Yeah, ilingoceratins looks awesome! Bad-ass antlers on that one Pronghorns are such an interesting creatures. Make me want to look up more prehistoric mammals, they don't archive them all together and all information are scattered all over internet and universities. I wish for catalog of species so we can see them all in one place and learn more about them. Undoubtedly, our inspiration will be ignited by some of them. I'm enticed to draw something with ilingoceratins horns
