Description I was originally inspired to draw this while listening to Rufus Wainwright's "Art Teacher," where the piano just reminded me of bicycle spokes and turning wheels on cobblestones.

Etching on copperplate paper.

Please excuse the poor scan quality - I'm working on an upgrade

zinc plate, copperplate paper - I usually note the paper type since some of my print work is done on unusual surfaces I've never had the opportunity to work on copper since my print experience is solely through my college (supplies are take-them-as-they-come).

Copper is cheaply bought though, and you can find small squares of it in most decent art-shops if you're looking for something to test out on. Does your shop bite with ferric? Is it set up so that persons wishing to could work in copper?

We almost always use zinc plates in a nitric solution. Because we have only one acid booth for the shop, and one printing shop for the entire department to share, it unfortunately tends to limit materials and techniques. Our aqutinting methods are the best example of this, as the process is not the normal highly-toxic resin method, but a spray-paint ground and stop varnish. Less toxic and more cost-effective, but it cuts a great deal of corners in the long run.
If I had the time and funds for lab expenses, I'm sure that our Department Chair would work something out - but alas, Life and student teaching call!
