Description
This has to be my favorite bird photo, I wasn't able to really catch the brilliant red on his throat, but the detail isn't too bad. It is amazing how delicate these little guys are.Related content

Oh my gosh! I am so jealous over seeing this photo!
Β The wonders of a search engine and 'female yellow finch' - I wasn't even searching for this. Β Shame someone couldn't take the photo for you.
I've always wanted a taxidermied humming bird.

Aw, that is just darling. Its feet are so tiny! I've always wanted to hold a hummingbird. My grandmother actually got to one time, the little bird got its beak stuck in the screen on her porch.

oh, what a cute little guy! I'm surprised you were able to catch him! Those only come to where I live during the winter, and when it's really cold we put up feeders for them. they aren't around much during the summer, because the only ones that haven't left only eat bugs when it's warm.

Thats amazing. Not only to see one (they are practically non existent here now) but to hold one and take such a great photo.. His throat looks metallic.

Wonderful photo, you caught the color perfectly! We get hundreds of these tiny Ruby-throated hummingbirds in the summer. We have several feeders hung on the back porch and it's a wonder to see them all zooming around. They have become so accustom to us that we can hold the feeder in our hand and within minutes dozens will alight to feed. All the Ruby's were gone by november but we have a couple of Buff-bellied hummingbirds that have wintered here (South Texas). I just love these little birds!
I have 2 videos on YouTube of the Ruby's if you'd like to see them around the feeder, here is one of them: [link]

thank you...you could but the water is cold, below 50 degrees. The hot tub is nice this time of year even with it being 35 degrees out
.

I can't find water that isn't frozen here.... 35 degrees? it's like summer there, we have been 0 with 15 below wind chill here in Michigan.

Great shot, I am constantly rescuing them out of my garage and back porch, so far I am the only one they will land on.

You're welcome for the favs and I appreciate the fav on hummingbird. I held at least 4 last year, I had one I saved from my garage and he spent all summer watching me, every time I would work in the garden he would fly down and sit on the fence, I guess to keep me company

Does it amaze you how cheap a lot of people are with their favs? I mean, look at how many faves you have compared to the pageviews...its like they have to pay for a fav out of their own pocket! This is totally the best bird photo on here...
