===EDIT 09/08/10WE HAVE PETITIONS!!!
===END EDIT
Well, this is part of my answer to the question of the week over at Anime News Network . The question is:
"What old series/movie are you interested in that the new crop of fans is completely uninterested in? Why do you think that is? What steps would you take to reverse it."
UPDATE!! My post and comic was posted! Just scroll to the bottom of this article . Glad to see several 009 fans commenting in the forum ^^
Well, I don't think I need to tell you what series I enjoy XD
Seriously, this show had a prime place to gain a following, the Toonami block on weekdays in the 2000's was THE PLACE for animation. But, it didn't garner enough favor to appease the rating gods and it was banished to like 4:30am. What is more disheartening is the series never ran its course in broadcast, missing the last 4 episodes, and we cannot even view it through other means like a streaming site or DVDs.
It just makes me sad.

I'm not sure if you know this yet or not, but part of the manga is currently up on Mangafox. Not sure how long it will be tho, some of the series have disappeared since last I was on.
and I signed the petition, and I'm going to let my friends know about this. We all remember this beautiful show and I'm sure they'll agree it needs to be brought back :3

oh yes!!! I saw it!!! ^^ Actually, does CyborgGirl have it all up yet? When that happened, I was going to post a journal on dA about it. I hope they post something on the livejournal page, that seems to be a main source for my Cyborg info.
Oh thank you!!! Yes, help us spread the word, that's the only way we have to get signatures! If it helps, we also have a Facebook page [link] (tinyURL because the FB link breaks in dA)
thank you for your support!

I've seen some of their work, and its pretty impressive...I just wish i could find more of 004 alone and not always paired up with 002...which is kinda scary

I have a few in my gallery, like this [link] and [link] and [link] (or even 004 paired with himself! XD [link] ) though he works so well to play him against 002. I think it is the personalities that create such great humor and drama. :3

True, their personality's do go well together but I'm not into the pairing thing (although 003 and 004 could work ) and thank you, those pictures are pretty good

Yeah, they changed it to about the same time in australia, and this was when I was in school, so I was up at 4.15 every morning to watch it. Was not a good few months. Was very tired, but at east we got all the episodes.

I loved it too much to stay asleep.
I believe it went up to episode 52? With 50 being the "proper" last episode, and then 51 and 52 being those completely non-understandable episodes that brings people back to like and puts them in situations that you have no idea how they got in and THEN leaves you on a cliff-hanger.
I have all 52 episodes on DVD.

Yeah, the 2001 series has 51 episodes. I know, the visuals at the end of ep 51 are just GAH!!!! I wanna seee!!!!
Are those episodes with the bad Chinese subtitles? or does it come with the English dub?

Chains-of-Blood In reply to inertbiscuit [2011-01-01 00:40:54 +0000 UTC]
Bad english subs. They're readable, but they seem to have just stuck the phrases ain google translator. But at least you can kinda get what they mean and work it out from there.
I wonder what did happen to them against that psychic woman after their powers went BANG!

inertbiscuit In reply to Chains-of-Blood [2011-01-03 02:34:27 +0000 UTC]
oh yes X3 I know those subs, *sigh* though I've never seen them for episdoes 49 and 50, and those discs don't have the 51st episode D: somehow, they were edited differently for Japanese TV and DVD release...
I know!!!! I want to know too ;w; I have only seen one mention of it online in English, but I believe the son of Ishinomori will conclude 009 in the year 2012. You can see that number on a couple artworks Ishinomori made.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Chains-of-Blood In reply to inertbiscuit [2011-01-06 02:02:43 +0000 UTC]
Hang on... WHAT!!!?? They're going to conclude it? Where did you find this information? HUH! Can you keep me updated? I haven't heard this before.
The discs that i have have all the episodes, but it took me a few years to find them. That, and I have burnt copies that my friend made me that has all the ep's. I would like one that has jap subs. I want to find the kanji and hiragana that they use for one phrase because I'm not sure I have it quite right.

Okay XD I wanted to double check where I read this. It's like... third hand info, so, I have no idea how reliable it is, but it LOGICALLY makes sense.
User Yoshiko72 , 2 months ago commented on a YouTube vid the following "Shotaro Ishinomori's son succeeded his work. His son, Joe Onodera said he would complete the novel by 2012. I hope so." I think I saw her post something similar to that elsewhere, and gave a Japanese webpage link. To what I'm not sure, I couldn't read a thing.
The 2012 would coinside with some artwork done by Ishinomori that had 2012 written in the background.
oh that is so cool~ Yeah, I cannot wait for the day us fans can watch the series in its proper form, either subtitled in English properly, or all in the English dub. Made in US but never showed all in US XD At least you guys got to see it... oh, if someone there has a VCR tape....
oh... you know enough Japanese to translate?

Chains-of-Blood In reply to inertbiscuit [2011-01-07 22:58:20 +0000 UTC]
I did 6 years of Japanese in high school and spent nearly 3 weeks over there, but I'm still pretty bad, but some of my friends arn't, so I could always ask. Did you try just using a google translator? They suck, but you may be able to make something out of it.
I never noticed any of the artwork having a number, but I'm not very observent >.< Could it maybe be the year that he set the anime in rather then the year it is going to be completed? Just as a possibliity..
I like sub better then dub, but that's just because I like the voice actors used in the Japanese one, but yes, Oh, praise the day when we get decent subs or dubs for this anime.
If you like, I can send you my burnt DVD ones if you promise to return them in the next 5 years, lol. Or I could try copy them for you. Theyre not very good, but I can give you all the made episodes.

inertbiscuit In reply to Chains-of-Blood [2011-01-08 05:46:28 +0000 UTC]
oh, I was just curious. I do use Google Translator a bit, and it gives me a good idea for webpages, but it doesn't work so well on my Japanese volumes of 009 manga
Drat, I can't find an online sample of that artwork that has 2012 in it. You could be very right about that. I try not to share my speculations with people, becuase I do not want to make it canon. It's frustrating to see the people who believe that Ishinomori died after writing manga volume 10... then why are there 27 volumes after that??? XD
*nods* I would love to have both, even though I enjoy the English performances, they changed enough of the dialogue I want to see the original version
Burned DVDs? You mean of the subtitled 009? Thank you for the kind offer, but not necessary, I have the torrents of the 2001 series. ^^

Chains-of-Blood In reply to inertbiscuit [2011-01-11 23:25:08 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I can imagine that it wouldnt work so well on manga, because they dont always use full or formal japanese, which is what google understands.
Don't worry, I like speculation, but dont always believe until I see. And I do seriously pray that youre right. (and if my idea were correct, that would be rather creepy, lol). And I would have no idea why poeple would believe that, I agree, does not compute.
I dont hav emuch of the english, but I think I might have a little. Its just easier to find in japanese. They certainly did change a bit around, and there are a few bits that I can tell that they soooo didnt translate properly.
Thats cool then, I couldnt work out if you had the last episodes or had just seen them.

inertbiscuit In reply to Chains-of-Blood [2011-01-13 03:29:33 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I cannot think that it is a sure thing, but hope that it is they case. LOL
Yeah, I have torrents of English 1-34, 35, 37, 38, 39, 42, 45-47. That's all we have. 5 of those random episodes found came from a fan who commented on my work and remembered they used to record the show, and they dumped the contents to the internet. :3 Always trying to find folks who have the that golden tape in the closet XD
Yeah, I have seen subs for pretty much all the eps, and you hear them shout a name and something else, but the subtitle is something different. Still works with the situation, just don't know why they did that. Do you recall any of the dubbings that was WAY off the Japanese? The only one I know is from Episode 4, where in Japanese Jet declared he didn't believe in God. In English, he didn't trust his parents.
thanks! ^^

I think I may have up to episode 5 in english, but that's it. If I had any tapes, I would give them to you though, but none, unfortunetly.
I would probably hav eto go through them again, but I dont really remember much of the english because there was such a long gap between when I watched it on cartoon network, and when I got the japanese episodes. I thinkthat there are alot of slight diffrences in nameing and a few translation mistakes, but none that I can think of off the top of my head.
And no problems, just trying to help a fellow fan.

*nods* It's all good, I just keep the eye out for them ^^
Yeah, I have no qualms with the Japanese yelling a name, and the English a warning, as long as it fits the situation and goes with the tone of the character. I'm glad there is none in your memory, because that means there is nothing actrocious in the eps you saw.
I like dubs to have freedom, to feel proper to the native speaker, but when they go off character, that's when I cringe.

You should remember that I have a very bad memory and it has been a long time since I saw the dubbed versions. As in, about ... hm...8 years maybe? I agree though, it isn't too bad until they start doing something that's so obviously incorrect that it's unbelieveable.

Yes, the manga is a great way to take in the story. I own all 10 English volumes, though I wish it was still in print so people could buy it cheaply. And there's the other 28 volumes we'll never see in the US. I did check out that iPhone reader of the manga (I don't own an iPhone, bummed from a friend for a preview) and that is a great alternative... though I'm still not sure how I feel about reading manga one panel at a time...
I do hope we raise some awareness of the 2001 series. The 2001 anime does an amazing job or portraying it, and cleaning up some of Ishinomori's less then clean story (though in no way makes them less epic stories) presentations.
Sorry, didn't mean to bury you in a comment
