Description
Last new piece before Anime Boston.Honestly... not my fav piece, but it's done and a learned a few new techniques to use on other stuff.
and the BG is not a photo. i made it with Manga Studios' awesome perspective rulers and lots of Blur fliters.

I'm going to split this up so I can actually give this piece the critique it deserves. :3
Vision:
The first thing that really grabbed my attention from this piece was your amazing use of blur. You worked this piece of art like a photograph and really took it home by using it to create a sharp focus point for the viewers and it works very well: my first impression on this piece drew my eyes right to hers and I really love that. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h⦠" width="15" height="13" alt="

Originality:
While I've seen this kinda thing in movies and films before, it's actually kind of rare to see it in art, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well you pulled it off. I really like the angle and the lighting you choose for this work. the lighting may be a little bit over done in some areas, but that could be a small sense of realism in trying to get the skin to look like it's reflecting light.
Technique:
The thing that stood out to me most here was your work on the chain link fence. Not only does it have an outline to keep it fitting with the manga/anime style you used on the girl but the way it's drawn is very precise, realistic and over all just excellent.
I think the girl's left (our right) cheek could have a little less of a sharp angle to help soften her face for a more sad look but that hardly subtracts from the image here. Her eyebrow color not matching her hair color kind of bugs me too, but that's a personal pet peeve and I'll spare you the ranting. xD
Perhaps thinner lines for the lineart might have added a touch of elegance and balanced her with the fence a little more?
Impact:
You definitely, truly, rocked this section. The slight purple hues, the blurred pieces for a focal point, the close up details: this piece had a strong impact and really drove a message home. You did really well in making her whole face hold an emotion, rather then just her lips defining how she felt and I applaud you on that.
However, I notice the shadows cast on her from the chain link fence are a little sparse and far between. I'm having a hard time judging whether this was from the lighting you choose or if you were worried about ruining her expression with it. I think if the shadows had been more crisp and clear it would have added a little more contrast to the image and might have perhaps added even more impact, but that's just a personal opinion.
Over all I feel very honored that you've shared this piece with us. Thank you e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h⦠" width="15" height="13" alt="

Hmmm, what to say, what to say. Well firstly, I want to say I know how the girl feels. I have felt like this many, MANY times and it is just something you never forget how you feel.
Anyways, I think this piece is very well done. I like how you did the blurred effect. It shows what should really be in focus. I think you did an amazing job with the coloring, especially her eyes. They are so hypnotizing. I spent most of the time looking at this staring into her eyes. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a⦠" width="19" height="19" alt="

On another note, I do think her palm is a bit overexposed. For me, it draws my eyes away from her face and eyes, which is supposed to be the main draw point.
Your anime-style is so amazing, and is something I will definitely be checking out in the future. So keep up the great work!
Please forgive the critique if it sucks, I'm still learning to give good ones.

I've got to say, I think this piece is really well done.
I really like the blurred effect you gave to this picture; It makes the perspective look as realistic as possible.
I love the overall concept of this art piece, and I think you did a fantastic job with both coloring and shading.
I do think the highlights on her palm seemed to look a little overexposed, but I would guess that is just to add the emphasis on the light source.
Definitely one of my favorite anime-style arts on dA, it is definitely something I will remember. Great job.

You have successfully captured the essence of every day living minus the occasional and rare peaks of happiness. This is the average condition of mankind. Magnificent! Well done.

You're welcome, your art earned it. The desperation is articulated in the way she is grasping the fence, and it holds her back. I love how you gave the fence a slight bowing, which highlights her pushing against it, trying to get through it, but cannot, her frustration clear in her forlorn expression. Glorious. Simply glorious.

Does this remind anyone else of the Terminator 2 scene when Sarah was at the fence in her dream?Β

Omigod, the subtle intensity is ....intense. But seriously, this baffles me that human hands could capture this expression & just get everything so.....right. :3 Looking forward 2 seeing more

Wow. Her eyes say it all, and pull the viewer in. The blurring of the background only enhances the gravity of her expression. First rate work!

this is amazing ,but I hate the fact that she is sad
I think~ a.)(she had to break up with her boyfriend)
b.)(parents probably died in a fire)
c.)(lost her cat that she had for a long time)
or d.) (running away from her past)~
but i still love how you did her face and hands ~

It's very rare to see a cartoon with a depth of field blurring of any kind. Part of this is because the black outlines of the characters tends to look bad. But here it looks just fine, and the blurriness draws your attention to what's in focus. I like that alot.

This is really beautiful. Makes me want to cry seeing her caged up like that.
The only thing I have to say would be agreeing with =Romaji Her palm is a bit too overexposed and my eyes are drawn to it first rather than her eyes.
But, overall, very pretty. ^-^
