I know, I have had a long period away from my art, too long, but I'm back and feeling very positive. I'm in the process of going through my mecha sketches and trying out some different finishes and colour schemes etc and once I have done a load more of these I will begin to turn some into much bigger pieces.

Your 3D work is incredible, I wish I had the patience to sit and learn how to do it, you make it look so effortless.

I couldn't explain why, but your images makes me feel good. Some strange exclectic mania, who knows ?
keep em comin' !

Thanks. Well, I'd be very sad if you took too much time on trying to reproduce what you do in "traditionnal" media with 3D, making them maybe more "shiny" and "realistic", but loosing what's good on your actual style : spontaneity, strengh, freedom aso…  Could be wrong, but pretty sure you don't need 3D, your Art is just great as it is (y)

Cheers !

I guess we all have our strengths, I love the look of 3d scifi

maybe try a collab?
I'd modelize one of your stuff in my software, render, then I'd pass you the file so you'd see some stuff ? "trouble" is I only use c4d, if I remember correct you were using another package, didn't you ? (3dsm? maya?)

sounds like a great idea. I just use photoshop to flesh out my images, I don't use any other programs, never actually got around to using a 3d program :S

ow, don't know why, I though you did give a try on a 3d app…
then let's do it! That would be a perfect thing for me after my daily work, will be a pleasure to do.
I'll save vidΓ©os screenshots so you see, hope I'll be able to turn it on something nice, orelse I'd never dare speak to you again

Yeah I was looking into it but never actually got anywhere with that.

That will be so cool!

What image would you need from me? I have sketches of course, but would you prefer a full colour piece as a starting point?

Well starting from a simple colored one would be easyer, mostly because of lighing style and shaders allready done…
But maybe you will want to only make sketches in traditionnal media, and then finish the image in 3d, so it could also be a nice lead (track, trail ?)

Anyhow I guess there will be some issues, because some time what works fine in 2D ain't the same in 3D… And this is what will also be cool for you, because new options might become avaible with 3d, witch is is the point of it indeed…

Whatso ever, something like this should be the best start me guess :
jamesjulier.deviantart.com/art…
(any of the untitled mecha serie)

The "skeletons" ones might asks some experience in modeling.

The pencil series leave more freedom, but might take more time.

I said collab, but maybe we could start with a more "execution" work, redoing in 3d what exist in 2d…

Well I will leave it up to you, I think one of the mecha images will work best, either an old picture or one of the recent ones. It should be your choice, whichever you think will be most interesting for you. If you like any of my mecha pencil sketches, I will be happy to colour it before you begin. It is very exciting to see what is possible. I am guessing it will throw up all sorts of questions that I have not considered, like what does the back of the shape look like haha. Anyway let me know which image you are interested in
