Description The foreland in front of the dike, here taken at the River Lek near Schalkwijk/The Netherlands, is indeed flooded whenever the level of the river rises. When the masses of the snowsmelt waters come down the River Rhine and spread over the various arms of the Rhine delta here in the Netherlands, these fertile grounds are completely covered by water.
