Without the high dikes this fertile rural area near Schalkwijk would be flooded each spring by the high level of the River Lek when the snow smelts in the Alps etc. and masses of water come down the River Rhine. The River Lek is one of the arms in the Rhine delta in the central Netherlands.Related content

Many thanks. There had been no frost yet here, so the grass stayed that green. It will be different by now.

The sun touched the green in such a way, that it almost looks unnatural, but living here in Holland, I know for a fact that it really looks as green as this is .. lovely Photo

you do know that dike is also an english word for lesbian (makes fro a great story about the boy who stuck his finger in the hole in the dike )
or is that dike spelled with a y?

Well, well ... I found out that that dyke is indeed spelled with that y!

luckly, though i know it is pronounced the same, because i got the story from my english teacher, he really told it like that to i believe some Canadians.
