Description Fly Agarics are an ever so beautiful species of mushroom. So I love to search for them each autumn. But this year I have not found one of them in the usual places. So I must admit I am a bit bewildered. They are not the sort of mushroom that are picked by mushrooms searchers, so what has happened?
In order not to lose track of them altogether, I dug up and old shot and recropped it a bit.

Beautiful! It's just like the mushrooms you see in fantasy paintings of pixies and nymphs. Very Nice!

I love those too
They used to be fairly rare, but now they're more common, luckily. Nice shot.

I wonder if they are yet another victim of what we've done to the environment...

Shaman's Bridge. They've been used for millennia by shaman, to journey between the worlds. Nowadays, folks are using them for that purpose, but with damaging results.

as far as i know, these mushrooms have been steadely decreasing in numbers in the netherlands for years and years now.

Also, they may not be the type of shrooms that are picked by people who pick mushrooms for use in food or whatnot, but a casual visitor of the forest with an enthusiasm for nature equal to his/her ignorance of red list species (e.g. most) can have disasterous effects on the local mushrooms. especially when they bring the kids along.

Last but not least, i'm starting to hear more and more stories of people using them for their hallucinogenic qualities.

It's a shame really, they are truly gems of the forest.

Many thanks for your explanation. That does make a lot of sense. But I agree, it is a real shame.

Global warming is killing off so much beautiful Nature. Sometimes, I want to find the switch and flip it, turning man back into a natural, non-technological creature. Life may have been much shorter, but it was much richer.

Wow, that sure is a beaut! It looks like it needs a little pixie on top of it.

Good luck with your search!
