Description
Brown Antechinus (Antechinus Stuartii)Despite it's appearances, this common but reclusive creature is not a rodent but a marsupial of the Dasyuridae family. These little insectivores build communal nests out of leaf litter tucked into tree hollows. When early settlers discovered the antechinus there was a rumour that they reproduced asexually due to the fact that no males had yet to be found. Later it was figured out that males live for only a year. During a 2 week period roughly between mid August to late September the males work themselves into a mating frenzy. They neglect food, safety, and shelter to mate with as many females as possible, as many times as possible. After this spectacular feat of sexual prowess they finally expire.
The Brown Antechinus inhabits the coastal and hinterland sclerophyll forests of NSW and southern QLD. This includes the Hunter Valley, my home.

Cheers, and I have... sorta. I couldn't figure out how to add an existing picture to the bioscience group so I had to re-submit it. This one in my gallery is titled by the common name, the one in the bioscience gallery is titled by the scientific name. I guess it must be possible to submit to the gallery already existing works but I don't know how. Any help?

Rockin'.
One of my mates up north once was bitten on the nutsack, while sleeping, by one of the bastards. I kid you not. His partner was a bit surprised when he woke up screaming.
I got to hold one a few weeks ago too. It was a baby, well, juvenile, and it fell into the sink and couldn't get out. I reached in to grab it, and it freaked out, and bolted up my arm, and off my shoulder, and onto the floor, bouncing off the bench on the way down. It sat stunned on the floor for a bit before scuppering off into the pantry. They have really soft fur!
