Description
Hi !Here's a new piece I've been painting on and off for a while, just for fun.
I wanted to paint a "sci-fi-space-explorer-girl-in-space/another planet", and this is what came out.
I was intending on refining it quite a bit further, but at this point I want to move on to something else.
I know the image itself doesn't seem to make sense and it's a bit abstract, but I just went with it, and I hope you do as well!
Cheers

I love how the smoke is becoming the fishes. Excellent piece, just discovered it myself. Sorry I'm late to the party.

Love this piece. It's the sort of abstract SF concept that brings to mind the art of Chris Foss, Rodney Matthews, Chris Achilleos, Roger Dean...
And I bet they never had to explain their artwork to the audience..!

Oh! I thought it was kinda like she knew she was dying so she took her helmet off and was smoking and henceforth... which was my confusion... as she still had her helmet on... Great piece btw! Very wistful

Beautiful. There's a bit of weird perspective going on with the lower body (her legs look a bit too thin and short, her hips seem out of line with her shoulders), but the upper body, especially the head and the cute little smoke-fish are incredibly well-done.
On another note, and maybe you've answered it somewhere before, but who is the redhead that so often appears in your landscapes and, I assume, is the one pictured here? I always love to hear about the little details like that.

Mmmm very relaxing ^-^ i agree with Tony, there is a bit of sadness to it, but its euphoric too. Maybe her oxygen is almost all out and she needs a last smoke that's what i would do

Hey Blinck, first of all it is a nice picture.
But one thing I think is out of place is the way her hips are done. I can't quite put my finger on it but she looks a little like an old woman because of the way her body is shaped.
I do not know if this is because you wanted the picture to 'sway' more or if it's a anatomical mistake, I just think the butt of her should've been put a little more fitting to the shape of her.
Could be it's just me.
Nice work, hope to see more !

Hey thank you for the comment! Would you say that her hip is too large?
Thanks!

It's hard to explain, but it seems like her hip and her arse is on the same line, meaning that her buttcheek is flat i.e the same depth as the extrema of her hip.
I hope you understand what I mean.

Maybe I don't get something in art thing, but why would you apologize instead of putting some sense in your own drawing?

JJcanvas In reply to Gigatless [2013-03-24 10:30:55 +0000 UTC]
I didn't apologize and never would. Everything in the image is painted on purpose

Maybe there is something that I don't understand in this art thing, but making the suit opened like this [link] won't make the picture less good.

If astronaut suits would be designed with persons like op and you, she either wont be able to get it off or die instantly when its opened

I assume it is out of place on purpose. Also, perhaps instead of dwelling on the smoking issue what about the fact that this woman is clearly on an uncharted planet with only a slim spacesuit and no extra gear or tools.
It's all just suspension of disbelief.

This is cool. I love space girls! A story that came to mind: someone unable to ease the anxiety of being out of her element with externally-sourced comforts (in this case, a cig she doesn't seem to be able to smoke), and the fish are the memory of comfort that haunt her. Closed eyes can represent a search for internally-sourced comfort.
p.s. pretty glowy smoke-fish you have there. also spooky cloud fish is spooky
