Shiny may not be as strong as say, Big Mac. But his training and obviously muscular build would make him a formidable melee combatant. Besides, he looks to be using his precision and speed to an advantage.
(For my fellows DnDers, he's applying his DEX bonus instead of his STR.)
And, who's to say he hasn't magically augmented his fighting skills?

Shining Armor is Unicorn, he can not be as strong as Earth Ponies.
I think Shining Armor should act as badass by acting spells or crushing his opponents with his shield, I do not see him to be a melee fighter.
As for Twilight, she and her friends beat hundred of changeling, as much as I enjoy the idea that mane 6 are not once again going all dirty work ( I really like when others cooperate with them ), Twilight deserve to not be so defenceless, hopefully I will see her kicking some flanks in next chapter.

And what about princess Celestia, Luna and Cadence. In most fanfics and comics, they are useless or do nothing because autor is afraid that letting them contribute would make conflict to easy to solve.
