Description
'Once upon a time' is inspired by antique books and old forgotten tales. When creating this artwork I had to think how I was when I was a child. I loved it how my brother and one of my sisters read the tales from Hans Christian Andersen for me. Or the tales from the brothers Grimm.I'm glad with the stockpicture from the woman. Her face is so expressive and powerfull, same goes for her eyes. All the faces in this artwork are created from the same stockpicture. In some of my other works you'll find this 'repeating' effect also. Her make-up and hat are brushes. Same goes for the decoration on the book. As always I used a texture to increase the contrast and colors.

Interesting how i didnt think it was the faces of the same person. Its good how you change the attire and make up and make it all different.

Hans Christian Andersen and The Brothers Grimm, wow those names bring back memories! I love how it looks haunting and old. I've been rereading all the fairytales from when I was a wee one and have come to realize they are very dark at times especially The brothers Grimm. Good Job!

You are so my artistic idol... When I view your work I am at a loss for words. Suffice to say this is magnificent ... I love the book theme and the appearance of an old painting. You are the master of your craft.

I think we've all been on a faerie tale kick lately, so this is even more perfect than it normally would be. The book is amazing, and I love what you've done with the make-up.

Beautiful, fervent work.
Brings to mind the wonderful pantomime
performed by Marcel Marceau in which he mirrored
the 3 Ages of A Soul. Youth, Age and the fading into
Eternity.

Thank you so much I have to admit that I had to do a Google search to find out who Marcel Marceau was
But now I see and understand what you mean. Your description is beautiful and it made me speechless .....

Ah, I was hoping you might know of him. Hmmm, I suppose he is very much of the former generation after all. But I am so pleased that you
took the time to research him. I saw the live performance of that vignette, and it was breathtaking indeed. Filled with a gentle, but still bittersweet
irony that left the audience hushed for many seconds. Very beautiful and moving, and your art reminded me deeply of that moment!

This artwork could not have come at a better time for me, because for the past couple of weeks I've been delving into all the old folktales from my youth. I absolutely love the weathered look of the book. Even the paint looks old and faded. The faces are so expressive; I love what you've done with them here. I wish I could open that book and read it!
