Description
It's been a looooong time since I made one of these. Why? Because for pretty much this entire console generation, games have been utter sh*t, and constantly pointing that out just became depressing.
Everything was being sold with a "season pass", so you knew off the bat that it was an incomplete product. Everything was leaning toward multiplayer, and not the kind where actual skill is rewarded, being as they were all pay-to-win. Ignoring the microtransaction, pay-to-win bullsh*ttery of its easily-dismissed online component: Red Dead 2 finally bucks that trend. It is an EXQUISITE game.
If you want an open world to explore, that (unlike GTAV) is actually full of interesting things to find and interact with: you need to play it. You will spend hours on the main game and sidequests that are marked for you, but there is a TON of hidden stuff scattered across the land, making this one of those rare AAA games that is genuinely worth the price tag.

I don't have a platform to play it on. Or time, really. There's a ton of unfinished games that I need to go back to.

Dutch (not comprehending a word): Arthur, I am mighty proud that you are learning yourself some culture, but we need to stick to teh playn! For Hosea, and Lenny, and all the others we've lost fighting this corrupt and montrous thing they call 'civilisation', this thing that grinds men down and makes savages of them... now, let's go exploit some natives, get em' to destroy themselves in a pointless fight with Uncle Sam, a fight we can use to loot and plunder and get away scott-free and laughing. That there, is good, enlightened thinking, ain't nothing remotely hypocritical in it.
Arthur: Tu es tellement plein de merde
Dutch (still not comprehending a word): True that Arthur, true that!

Arthur : Ya know Dutch, for years I listened to you and your philosophical ideas and for years I kept a notebook but now I've seen Micah corrupt you and your ideals, just as the European mining industry corrupts the beauty of our mountains and the tranquility of the snow-covered plains!
Dutch : HAVE SOME GODDAMN FAITH SON!
Hosea : sshhhhh We have to keep a low profile!

(merci monsieur - I can't actually speak much French but google translate is a lovely thing )
Dutch: Hosea, my oldest, LOYALEST friend... you've got faith in me, haven't you old sport?
Hosea: Of course Dutch, of course. Why, all that sport that went down at the bank in St Denis, it was all just a fine lark. Lenny and I, why we even came away with some fine war-wounds to share around the camp-fire.
Dutch: The camp-fire, oh I've missed the parties we had around the camp-fire. When we get to Tahiti, we should... we should all get around the camp-fire again, the whole family. You, Lenny, Sean and all the rest, all the rest...
(Arthur just watches in sadness as Dutch talks to the thin air, engaged in facile conversation with the friends he's gotten killed)
Arthur: Chaque homme doit mourir un jour, Dutch... and some, some have gone on already. Gone, and ain't never comin' back.
Dutch: Arthur, my boy! Come on, join us - let's smile and laugh and sing around the camp-fire, like a family. Our family - our strong, loving, LOYAL family, united in faith, and the plan. The dreaym!
(Arthur looks towards the few sullen faces around the camp - so many have gone on, or gone off. The only smile is Micah's, and his faith and loyalty - well it was always to himself. Himself and the MUNEH!)
Arthur: Sure Dutch, sure... (looks towards Micah)... Chaque homme doit mourir un jour. Un jour benoit...

(I'm french, im excersi g mah english ^^ and use Deepl its more hmm reliable than Gogole translate (a french pun 😉) )
While John and Sadie and Charles watch the scene in the background. For a moment, during the slight moment when the flames of this family campfire created light golden nuggets contrasting on the darkness of the shade you can see Dutch's big smile as well as Micah's, everything seems to be getting old in a few seconds while Hosea and this brave Lenny disappear, Arthur makes a last nod to Reverend Swanson and John He disappears while in his valiant eyes one could still see the beauty of the great plains, the mountain streams and the wonder on a burning desert sunset, where Earth and Paradise are now one. When the moment came back, when our 3 deceased disappeared, the 3 members of the Van Der Linde family saw the rest of the faces get lost in the night while behind Dutch and Micah. You can see the golden glow of BlackWater's ingot. Later that night, snow appeared, shots were fired and Micah Bell "The Survivor" collapsed into the snow shot down by Dutch Van Der Lind. This story began in the snow and ended in the snow. The cold winter swept Micah away with his ardour. Dutch embarked on a new story and our heroes became an integral part of the legends of the Wild West.

Fair enough. Also, I have to say, when I first read "Find *YOUR* Hat" I thought it was an exageration "Oh Arthur's starting hat is just fine" Then I found the Civil War Hardee Hat inside of the fort where you find the first bounty in Saint Denis and I had exactly the same thought as in this comic "Whelp, this is never leaving my head."

AAA games simply aren't worth it; even the single player games like Assassin's Creed are getting packed with microtransactions. Games like Red Dead 2 or God of War 8 are the exceptions, not the rule.
I've basically entirely moved to indie games and it's so much more rewarding and fresh and interesting and fun. Basically the complete opposite impression of AAA games.

Hm, I enjoyed GTA V and I'd like to play RDR2, but I can't bring myself to support rockstar after they let the dumpster fire that is GTA Online burn for all these years.

RDR2's single player component is worth the price tag, and infinitely superior to GTA5's single player component. After hating both GTA4 and GTA5, I never thought I'd recommend a Rockstar game, but you really will be missing something if you choose not to play it.
Online play is optional.

Horizon Zero Dawn, though dude. Fuck me. No Season Pass, just one DLC that was equally brilliant, a whole additional storyline, brilliantly acted, amazingly fun game play. Highly recommend. I literally got so curious about it that I bought a PS4 just to play it, and I haven't regretted it for one moment.

> ...for pretty much this entire console generation, games have been utter sh*t...
My suggestion? Draw a How To Make A(n) [Insert Genre Here] Game strip or two.
Even if the Triple-A companies don't take your advice, you may inspire other (future) developers to improve/innovate while providing them with a fitting chuckle to two.
The sooner the toxic soup of microtransactions, loot boxes and ripped out/locked away content sold as DLC is neutralized the better off the gaming industry will be.
The last thing it needs is another Crash...
Or does it? ((0_0))
