Description
Candid Street PhotographyYou take a camera into a bustling City Centre 7 days a week and you`re guaranteed to nab something different and unique every single time.
It never seems to generate the love that many other categories get here on DA,but personally I love it,admire it,think it was born to be converted to Black & White and will share some of my street stuff now and again....like right now
In the City I always have my cam wrapped round my wrist, locked on AV Mode with the smallest Aperture possible set, trigger finger ready.
I literally stepped out of the Car Park as this Girl walked past me and cos I was dialled in and good to go,I got this shot.
Be confident,be ready or you`ll miss it and it`s gone forever.
Thanks for looking, take care, hope you enjoy

Though, seriously, I would spontaneously combust if I had to be surrounded by that many people I'm not a people person and big cities give me the creeps

"I enjoy documenting everyday life through the lens,it`s fun "
My favorite kind of photography!
I am still at that stage, however, where
I am a tad uncomfortable shooting people.
But you give me confidence

I believe with a better camera I
will have even more confidence.
Some say it doesnt matter what
camera..I sooo disagree!
Four megapixels just doesnt
cut it!
Thanks.

Well, let`s not get excited eh mate...it`s not like I trolled her round, took a 1,000 pics, followed her home, snapped her through her bedroom window, called her 80 times a day and boiled her pet bunny in a giant saucepan, you know?
I took one shot and moved on to the next victim...in fact you no doubt too more shots of that BlueBottles arse than I did of this girl

Candid street photography, frightens the life out of me. I find it very difficult trying to photograph strangers without them knowing. I feel so embarrassed if I'm caught pointing the camera their way.

That`s a natural reaction Eve and I agree,it can be uncomfortable if they see you,but many times that will get you the killer shot you desired
I enjoy documenting everyday life through the lens,it`s fun

Love it and candid photography is one of my passions too. However.. it got me into so much trouble that I have given up on it for the moment. This is a prime example of how grabbing "the decicive moment" can lead to a fantastic capture. well done xx

I`ve only encountered a few fussy Security Guards around London this past August myself...what exactly were the probs you encountered Charmaine ,curious if you can talk about it of course.
Thanks

Well.. there are a few incidentces where I got accused of being a terrorist...or even a pheadophile (spelling).
I was at my local bus stop (brand new building and all metal and shiny .. awesome sight when the sun hits it at the right moment). Was waiting for the bus and the sun hit it just right... so I got me camera out just to shoot the building from the insight, a close up of some beams and the glass and stuff. Next min I was surrounded by security accusing me of "behaving in a terroristic manner". Ohhh well....
Another time I went to a street festival in which some teenage kids performed in the local park. A bit like cheerleading... throwing sticks about and dancing.. that kinda thing. Again... out come my camera (I thought as it was open and public no problem). I got cornered by a woman asking if I was press... i was honest and said no. So she said "you better put the camera away then before I call the police and have you arrested for being a pheadophile". At that point I got rather annoyed, especially as she said it in a rather loud voice. I challanged her, claiming they shouldnt have the kids perform publically if they dont want anyone looking at them. Wrong thing to say. I spent half the afternoon arguing with a police man and missed the shows entirely lol.
After that I got a bit weary about street photography. I always carry a document around with me outlining what I can and cant do... showing it to people that challange me, trying to stay within the bounderies and being safe. Always hoping that the next time wont be the one when someone decided to become physical towards me. I love street photography. So many interesting people out there, but .. sadly.... todays society has become so paranoid that anyone with anything bigger then a phone camera is accused of one thing or another.
Sorry for having gone on a bit. It still kinda winds me up when I think about it lol. xxxxx

Jeez, that`s some nasty nonsense you`ve had thrown at you Charmaine, crazy
I was confronted by Security Guards on 3 separate occasions while in London all August, but to be fair, they were all polite and two asked me to not shoot their particular building while the 3rd was happy that I was not shooting some barrier down the river
I`ve took 100`s of candid people street shots this year and have so far had no crap,if it happens I`ll quote my rights and stick up for myself no worries

CharmingPhotography In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2008-10-06 06:44:20 +0000 UTC]
I think its easier for a guy to be honest (no I am not being sexist here).. but some female security guards (and with me on both occasions they were female) dont like facing males and kicking up a stink. While with females they think they can show off their powers lol.
Same when just going around town and shoot random peeps. Not many woman would stop and ask you to delete the image.. but with a fellow female they think they can.

I`ve never encountered any female SGs,but now you mention it,there was another occasion when I shot this woman in Camden Market....she was sat on a stall and her Girlfriend (they were definitely partners according to my GF ) was being super protective and asked if she could see what I shot as she was concerned that I photographed items on her stall.
Utter bollox of course, she was jealous that I got a shot of her pretty misses
I happily deleted the shot for her...but only cos it was crap anyway

haha... its so funny...I bet if you took the same shot with a small point and shoot or a camera phone she would have taken you for a tourist and not said a word. Its them big dslr's that always attract the attention and seem to make us out to be some kind of weirdos lol xxx
