Description
One of the active Osprey nests down at Flamingo in Everglades National Park right now. The nest activity was extremely slow while they incubate (the action is when the chicks hatch), but it was still fun. The mosquitoes even in broad sunlight were amazingly bad! I had to put on my bug jacket to minimize the bites.Related content

Hi there, I'm a student studying Natural History Illustration in Australia. I was wondering if I could use your fantastic photo as reference for an Osprey painting I plan to do. If not I will certainly understand
Thanks,
Emma

I love it; are you in Minnesota, cause I hear that that's where they spawn. I love the way you caught it just as it as taking off.

No, I'm in Florida. Osprey are extremely widespread in the world and breed on just about every continent!

Yeah, I wish I could see one in person, they're really cool birds, one of my favorite in fact; if I haven't already said that.

Superb capture, and as others have said, it does look like it's staring straight into the camera lens.

Thanks. How are you liking the 7D? 500mm....I'm jealous.

The 7D is a fine camera...lots of improvements over the 40D (the camera I upgraded). The only thing slightly disappointing so far is the noise performance. It's okay, but not stellar. ISO 800 works, but beyond that things get dicey.

Hmmm....I thought you'd been shooting with something like a 5D or 1D but I guess I was confused. I have the 5DII and the noise issue is the whole reason I bought it. I was a little disappointed in how the video didn't have auto focusing, but since I don't use it much it's not a huge deal.

Yes, it is, but I've never gotten good photographs of crocs there. I've been told of a particular backcountry site that is supposed to be croc heaven. I think I need to check that out!!

Yes!!! Go! Then please tell me where it is.
I also didn't get any great shots of the crocs at the marina. You can see them really well but they're not in a good spot to shoot.
