Description A photograph of a Red Mangrove (notice all the prop roots) photographed during a red sunset several months ago. This is from the cool transition zone between fresh and salt water in the park, where cypress and mangroves grow nearly side by side.

This was another print that I debuted at my exhibit last weekend.

For me the mangrove is a little too dominant in the shot and I would have loved to see this from a little further back. Nevertheless a wonderful sky and great location.

Cool sunset. What do the prop roots do? Does the water level fluctuate that much seasonally, or do they serve another purpose for the Red Mangrove?

Red Mangroves are well adapted for living in water. These particular mangroves go from completely dry in March/April to under 1-2 feet of water by the peak of the rainy season in September. Thanks for asking!

Thanks... Southern California, where I live, does not have too many plants adapted to water that way... we are too dry most of the year, and I can certainly see a need for long roots in the situation you describe...I imagine that having them clustered in that way, but spread at the base also provides support and stability for the plants when they are above water I'll bet some interesting creatures live under the roots at different times of the year too.

Very good work! The only fault I can find is the branch coming out of the water, bottom left. I find that distracting. But apart that, everything else is pretty much perfect. The colours are amazing!
