Description
From a moody spring morning in Everglades National Park. All the conditions came together for an image that I had visualized for several months. In fact, the alligator's raised head (it was crunching down a catfish it had caught) made the image even better than I had hoped!Canon 5D, 17-40mm
1/50, f/7.1, ISO 400

The ripples in the reflection of the sky make this look real nice.

With this type of shot, the discussion would usually revolve around the free-space and how to properly crop it.
In this case, I'm pleased that you didn't over crop.
The expanse of reflecting water makes this image special.
Are we using stars?

Thanks so much. I agree that this is a situation where it was critical not to crop too much. I really enjoy the spaciousness of this version. I appreciate your comments!

Wow, great capture of the reflection, and the gator makes it just perfect. I think he also adds more interest compared to if it was just a shot of the water alone.

Stunning. I really like the placement of the alligator in the frame (although at first glance I thought it was a leaf floating on the water - not a mistake I imagine you'd make twice in reality!).
The reflections and the ripples are both fantastic.

This is wonderful!!! I love the persective of the offcenterness and those clouds on the water would be beautiful on their own but to get the alligator
Well done!
(But try to watch your catagories - there is one for reptiles...there are some here on dA that get a bit peeved )

Thanks for the comment and for the information on categories. I received my "violation" message...lol. Interesting that "wild animals" is mostly made up of zoo animals. I'm slowly learning DA and appreciate your help.

I got questioned once about my personal gallery catagory as I put my zoo shots in my 'wild animal' catagory - but I've got local deer and foxes in there, too, so what're you to do...
I've been on here about a year and a half so ask away and I'll answer if I know the answer
