Description
I caught this tiny little guy soaking in the morning sun on a cool (65°F) morning in an Everglades Cypress Dome. I experimented with several different angles and really liked this pose that he struck for a couple seconds. I still need to process this as a RAW image, but Lightroom currently doesn't support S95 files. I'll be patient!Related content

Very cool... and amazing lighting.
Made me remember this grasshopper shot I saw a few years back

Fantastic as usual. How do you know that the cypress dome is safe to navigate? I went through two of them with a group for a school class. Amazing experience, but I doubt I'd just go into one by myself.

Ok, so maybe I could run into a cottonmouth or an alligator, but these are unlikely to be dangerous as long as I am careful...and generally you don't even see those creatures. The beauty overpowers any potential danger.

the gators are what concerns me, as a northerner with limited exposure to them. No concern when I went, because that was the record cold week, where the iguanas were falling out of trees and there was frost on our table at Sand Pine campgrounds....
The water is their domain, much less conspicuous than when on land. Not criticizing you at all, just curious about if you have any methods, or go with others etc.

Sorry to be so slow to reply. I enjoyed your comments, and was just trying to quiet your fears a bit. Gators can be dangerous, but in areas where they have not been fed by humans they are generally quite wary and get out of your way. I typically go out alone and have never felt fear from the alligators I've encountered. I just have to keep a very close eye out so that I don't step on them when they are submerged...thankfully our water down here is quite clear. I do know people who have stepped on them too...the gator tries to get away quick, and this is usually enough to knock you down!

I would probably piss my pants if I stepped on an alligator
Simply a matter of comfort level.
And yes the water in the cypress mounds is as clear as it gets. Beautiful places, and I'd love to go back one day. Such a unique environment, and to see it for yourself as you wade in. The small trees on the outside with the grasses and all of a sudden you are in this watery forest with a canopy and mosses and bromeliads everywhere. Definitely something I will have to see/do again.
