I've always wanted to do something with rain (Miyazaki has got me yet again) so I had this image in mind a while back and I made a quick thumbnail sketch in my sketchbook. The light rain didn't turn out as well as I hoped so until I "figure it out," this will have to do.

Haha, yellow is definitely not my favorite color. But I like to try something new each time I do a piece. You should've seen me when I was doing my "Psi-fye and Phantasie" one. I shuddered at the fact that I was going to use pink, lol.

haha, yeah, I hate pink too. But ya know, sometimes the colors ya hate the most make the piece work...unfortunately.... *shrug* ^^

Well, what I did was after getting the basic coloring down on highlights and shadows, I'd add extra highlight on the hair using a (in this case, white) soft round brush set to about 30% opacity (depending on how much I wanted it to "shine") and use the smudge tool to sort of blend it into the hair. I did have a few layers for that part so I was figuring it out as I go.

i know what you mean about Miyazaki and the rain. it makes me a little crazy too. he always seems to work it in some where. i especially like it in "Totoro" and "Spirited Away". i sure by the way you have mastered hair and the way you do eyes with that deep liqiud look that rain is just a matter of time. whats the story behind the title of this work...peace

I just love how his movies always have the element of water. Yes, the rain and water in "Totoro" and "Spirited Away" were the best in my opinion. And he always makes me wish it was raining so I can go outside and play in a puddle, lol. There's actually a bit more detail with the water droplets in the original version size. I think it didn't work out too well because I decided to do light rain. And there's no story in "The Story of Us,"
