Description
The sea rolled back and forth in front of me, slowly breathing its hushed breath on the rocks far below. The cliff rose in an almost sheer face up to the chiseled edge on which I sat. I looked out at the waves slowly marching to their deaths against the bottom of the cliff. Once, thereβd been a rail along the clifftop path, but now there was nothing but rusting lengths of pipe and dead grass. I closed my eyes, listening to the softly breathing water. I pressed the cool metal barrel beneath my chin. Was this how Mini felt before she died? I took a deep breath and slowly let it out. ~ Chapter 23, Fallout: Equestria Project Horizons.(A sunset picture that started going well and then evolved -- not to be taken out of context. I'm annoyed at having this stye in my eye, but not personally depressed. ^.^; )

That's one of the most powerful (and memorable) moments in the story for me. You did an amazing job with this.

Thanks. It was for me, too -- and the way Somber handled it was fantastic.

Agreed. I'm lucky because one of Somber's editors is one of mine, too. Also, your picture kinda makes me want to make music. It'd be a while, but if I do, would you mind if I use this image (with credit, of course) when I post it on YouTube?

I certainly wouldn't! It would be an honor!

Dunno where all my time comes from, but I seemed to find some. It's really only my third try making music, but hopefully you'll enjoy it. ^_^ [link]

It's chilling how closely you drew that to the scene! I can hear the waves crashing against the cliff... Dayum.

It is. Only one section of Project Horizons has been better so far, in my opinion (chapters 19-20).

that scene was tense. very well done, and i even enjoyed it despite my aversion to anything suicide related.

Oh god... I hated that scene for how beautiful it was... I still shudder when I remember that she had wanted to pull the trigger. That she had done so. I love the picture because it is bleak and beautiful. Thank you for this, it is a great proverbial washcloth that I'll use to wash the suicidal thoughts that I have had away. Heh heh... I actually gave up on committing suicide because I couldn't figure out how to tie a noose. Not my best moment, that's for sure.

Wow, this piece of art work really fits the scene. Was a very sad part of the story and I think you've done it justice.
I simply love the art style.
Once again well done Shytalon!

The lighting/color of the picture definitely fit with the tone and atmosphere of that particular scene. It's sad and a bit scary to think just how close the Wasteland was to winning out over Blackjack right then and there.
I like the set up of the composition, with the shapes of BJ and the foreground making an interesting almost parallel shape to the one made by the sky and ocean and both contrasting in value. I definitely get a feel for her isolation here. Having ehr facing away from the audience further bolsters that. I also liked the touch of using the magic glow to highlight a little of the detail on her. The smooth blending and color palatte give everything that matte, somber kind of feeling. Very nice work!

Thanks! Yeah, it was a fairly simple sunset, mid-line horizon doodle at first. And then I built up the foreground a little. Then I went, "Oh, ho! Idea~!"
I still plan on working with Kim to make an animation of this scene from front or profile, but the simple silhouette is just so powerful. I almost didn't add the gun, but I felt like the sharp lines and brightness of her magic would just really pop out in the soft background.
And I almost played with some surrealism with her shadow, but playing it straight felt the best.
