I don't think there's any way to know! Given that they're all relatively low in price, they should be all about the same quality. Personally, I just bought the cheapest set and I'm totally happy with it

You have a Nikon D60 right? May I ask exactly what macro filters you got (meaning the brand or seller) so I know I'm getting good quality ones?

I'm looking at some by "Massa" on Amazon.co.uk, but I'm not sure. I might try at an actual store first.

So sorry for the very late reply. I remembered I had this message from you, but took me a while to find it

Soooo to answer your question, I have no idea what brand they are. There's no brand name on them and I can't seem to find the receipt. I've just looked those Massa ones up on Amazon and they seem good to me. I have a set of four and paid about £15, so considering how cheap they were I'm guessing they weren't a certain super fancy brand

It's okay. Thank you for taking the time to look! I think I'll go ahead and get those then. I mean, you can't go too wrong with lenses for that price.

When I first saw your gallery, I was surprised you didnt use macro lenses. My parents are too much of a cheapskates to buy new lenses, so I was stuck with normal 52 mm lenses. I had to get macro filters right away because of you. One thing though... Whenever I try to use +14 (+10 and +4) My camera won't focus! Even when i'm using a tripod it wont focus!!

Jules1983 In reply to ellir-pa [2010-07-21 17:12:35 +0000 UTC]

The +14 one is quite tricky, I have to say, you will only get a very shallow depth of field. Have you tried manually focusing the lens? Especially with a tripod, that should be the easiest way to do it

i rarely use the manual mode... but i tried it today and look! Pokemon Hehe

great tutorial, piece of info I would add, if your looking for more Depth of Field while using these or any marco equipment, dial up the F/ stop and either add more lighting or set for a longer exposure, as these filters make your len's Depth of field extremely tiny, and a pain to work with sometimes.

Never used macro filters to be honest. At least not with my current camera.
Any particular brand you'd recommend? Thanks in advance.

Not sure there's any 'real' brands, considering they are so cheap lol any set of 4 filters for 10-20$ should be great!

EmiratesA380 [2010-07-05 17:06:31 +0000 UTC]

In reference to the manual focus, the thing I find the easiest to do is to set the focus to midrange, then just turn it to manual focus and actually move the camera in and out until the subject is in focus.

Not sure if it'll work with all macro filters/lenses, but I've found it to be useful sometimes.

Nice guide, highly appreciated!

-Noah.
