Wonderful. Is this your take on the Lion and the Unicorn? The poem I mean.

Absolutely fantastic. I love seeing peoples work on wood, it makes it look sort of organic. The illustration is great too, I really like their expressions.

Nice illustration of the old verse. I like that it's done on wood, too, instead of paper or canvas. Well done!

Good piece.

absolutely beautiful,
I like how you chose to do it on wood.

...the lion beat the unicorn, all about the town....
I can see why. The perspective is very interesting, and I love the way the wood gives a background without having to do one. Very well done!

wow, great illustration. Love the wood surface. Is it George Stubbs inspired?

julip In reply to Wisteria24 [2007-09-05 18:20:36 +0000 UTC]

nope its inspired by the old nursery rhyme "the lion and the unicorn"
The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown
The lion beat the unicorn all around the town.
Some gave them white bread, and some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum cake and drummed them out of town

Very impressive work. The action and the form of the unicorn and the lion are very well done. Even the story in this has an interesting feel to it.

Congrats on getting this on D.D. its well earned

i believe its water based paint, in between acrylics and watercolours in fluidity. im sure someone at an art supply store could explain it better.

no little unicorn run run run!!!!

seriously though...you did excellent on the unicorns hind quarters. very nice muscle toning and every thing...very nice.. the crown adds a nice touch..kind of like king of the savanna vs king of the forest. the detail is really nice too.

is this from the book "stardust"? i'm listening to it currently and i left off with a crown in a field and a unicorn bursting from the forest chased by a lion.

I've never heard the work of poetry, but I can definitely appreciate this work of art. It reminds me a lot of the animal paintings of Eugene Delacroix. I can also see the influence of the other artists cited by those commenting above. You must draw from great sources of inspiration.

Fantastic picture! I love the colours, and the chunkiness of the unicorn. I'm getting a little bit sick of ethereal whispy glowing arabianesque unicorns so I'm very fond of this hefty beige and grey one.
The movement is incredible, the medium smooth and evocative...overall...it just takes my breath away.
Congratulations on the DD - you definately deserve it!

Fantastic illustration. Looks just like it's been ripped out of a children's story book. Reminds me of George Stubbs's painting "Horse Attacked by a Lion" (well one of them).

Neither of them. The legend goes that the unicorn, in his vanity, claimed that he was the most beautiful and should be king of the beasts. The lion, claimed that he should be king of the beasts, for he believed he was the strongest of all. Thus the unicorn and the lion entered into battle. The lion clawed and bit at the unicorn, and the unicorn stabbed and stomped at the lion. They were equally matched, so it was made that the lion should be king of the beasts in the day, and the unicorn at night.
