Description Mutant Invertebrate
CRUSTACEOUS REX

HEIGHT: 50 meters

MASS: 24,000 metric tons

BIO:

When ZILLA Jr. was presumed dead, Nick Tatopoulos lead the HEAT team with a heavy heart to Jamaica, where reports of another mutation were flooding across the internet. It was here that a new species of giant squid from the deep ocean had been driven into relatively safer feeding grounds by…something.
As it turned out, Zilla had survived the attack and followed HEAT to the South Seas, where he saved the crew from a massive squid attack. As it turned out, the thing that had chased the squids from their habitat made itself known: a giant crustacean which Randy Hernandez later dubbed CRUSTACEOUS REX, although Victor “Animal” Palotti suggested the name “Giant Walking Crab Cake.” The former stuck.
Crustaceous Rex is a relentless foe, although it is not specifically aggressive towards humans. In fact, the only time it actively chased people was when Nick and French operative Monique DuPre lead the monster into the nearby jungle with a truckload of highway tar. The kaiju was feeding on tar-and-tar-like-substances like that produced by the giant squids, and after Zilla burned up its food supply, it was left with little recourse. When it specifically threatened Nick, Zilla leapt into the fray, and used a combination of wits and a set of GODZILLA-like powers not present in his biological father to defeat the monster, crushing it under tons of rock.
After analyzing C-Rex’s DNA, Nick and Elsie Chapman discovered that it shared a remarkably similar genetic structure to Zilla, and, by extension, Godzilla. What was going on?!

ABILITIES/ASPECTS:
- Armored hide protects from most conventional weaponry
- Surprisingly agile
- Moderate healing factor
- Able to regurgitate tar as a form of self-defense
- Tentacles on underbelly used for grappling

It took me a while to realize it, but despite his name, Crustaceous Rex is actually a mutated squid (which makes sense given how it was preying on those smaller squids that were terrorizing Jamaica).

His body is the mantle of a squid and his two legs are a pair of modified tentacles. His 4 mouthparts are also modified tentacles as well. Add those up with the 4 tentacles he has dangling underneath his body
and Crustaceous Rex has up to 10 tentacles, which is the amount that squids typically have.

This guy was one of favorites in the animated show. His design is most impressive. He was presented well, like ''oh you thought those squids were the main bad guys? Wrong a Giant Sea Creature is actually the top dog.

C-rex was always difficult to place. They mostly looked like a cephalopod... but what was up with those legs? And what about that name?

The chitinous armor and harder, toothier beak there just further distorts his evolutionary progeny, looking somehow even more like a squid AND more like a crustacean! And for an added bonus, those big, bulky legs can now smack other monsters around! This beastie looks like it could take on a whole team of Zillas and still hold its own!

Basically, it's another one of the best in the line.

Excellent redesign of C-Rex! I'd love to see Godzilla fight this thing in the IDW comics, him & other Godzilla the Series monsters like The Crackler, Cryptoclidus, Nessie, & of course, the Lizard Slayers (give Godzilla some giant robots to fight besides MechaG for the umpteenth time lol).

Komodozilla In reply to KaijuDuke [2016-04-11 23:33:35 +0000 UTC]

I'd like to see that too, but I doubt it will happen. Toho can use "Zilla" because it was originally licensed under the "Godzilla" trademark. When Tri-Star's rights to the character expired in 2003, Toho rebranded it as a seperate character that they owned. C-Rex and the other Godzilla: The Series monsters, however, are still owned by Tri-Star. IDW would have to acquire the character rights from Tri-Star, and even then I'm not sure they could use them in an official Godzilla story without Toho's permission... I think.

Ugh, talking about copyright crap makes my head hurt.

Surprisingly agile? This thing is as big as Zilla and walks on two legs with a small body. It would be a surprise if it wasn't agile!

Godzilla: The Series was an awesome show. Glad they're releasing the complete series soon.

Ironically it wasn't Godzilla. Or Zilla. It was Zilla Jr, so really it should have been called Zilla Jr, the series.

Well looks like your gonna keep waiting because that show is really old. It started in 1998 and ended a while ago. So good luck waiting for something that isn't going to happen. You can sit next to all the people who can't accept the fact that Harry Potter is finished.

TJBladeX In reply to Wesdaaman [2014-10-28 14:05:22 +0000 UTC]

That's not a reference to Ebirah at all! That looks nothing like Ebirah! Ebirah is a giant lobster, not a weird two legged, seaweed, spiky monster!

Wesdaaman In reply to TJBladeX [2014-10-28 15:21:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, they are both Crustaceans, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TJBladeX In reply to Wesdaaman [2014-10-28 15:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Just because they're crustaceans doesn't mean its a reference! King Ghidorah and Orochi are both giant powerful hydra's but that doesn't mean they're a reference to each other. Baragon walks on all fours and has spikes but that doesn't mean he's a reference to Anguirus, Megaguirus is a giant flying bug but that doesn't mean its a reference to Mothra or Battra!
