This was an actual exchange I had with some guy at Anime Boston. He spent about 20 minutes looking through my art just to drop that nugget of wisdom on me...at a CARTOON CONVENTION.Though seriously, I swear I'm usually more tactful, polite, and receptive to criticism. This dude just pressed the right "Make Kevin behave like a total ass" buttons. X_x

I was looking thought your gallery your style and trying to relate it to this comic and I think I have an idea what he was trying to say.
First, not sure if you went to a comic or anime convention (which mostly of you will try to defend to death that both are the same, Im sorry folks, are not the same).
The fact that a critic is not a compliment do not means that it is a bad critic, just a commentary maybe, anyway, I saw your style more funny and indeed "cartoony".
Mostly cartoon fans are used to see the DC / Marvel style which use a more mature graphic elaboration, where realism and proportions are very carefully done (including light, expression, concept, character personification and originality.
Such definition of art are not actually applied to your style, which this is a commentary not a compliment.
I personally find very stylish and cool your work, there is no doubt you have a very interesting style on your hands, but I found you very influenced by other japanese works, that could look kinda conflictive.
Just my comment, I found offensive and funny this comic.
But the graphic style is lovely.
And not, Im not a comic book/anime fan, I consider my self and ignorant about comic books.

I agree that guy comes off as a douche, but at the same time, far too many shitty artists don't know how to take criticism (including me in my early years). You wouldn't believe the number of idiots with pencils who think they can justify a complete lack of technical ability with "it's my unique style, thus, you're not allowed to criticize it."
