Can I ask, why are copics so popular? All the good marker artist's here seem to favour them over Promarkers, which is what I use. I'd love a set of Copics, but they're too expensive for me. I just want to know why they're so popular.

Actually, if you look at this tutorial you can see I use quite a few brands of marker (including Pro Marker). However, Copic does have a couple of advantages that Pro markers do not. Asides being able to get refilled (saves a lot of money in the long run) most versions of Copic markers also have brush tips which I find leave an awesome effect/brush strokes and textures - and also the tip makes it easy to get into the little corners of some parts of images.

That's exactly what I need! I draw quite small, and getting into small spaces is frustrating. Copics are expensive, but it sounds like they're worth it.

I remember stumbling over this a long time ago, reading through the tutorial and marvel at these fabled markers (they are hard to come by in my corner of the world) and then sadly forget about because I never thought I'd get my hands on such markers. Now I've managed to do just that and I stumble across this by accident a second time - and I am oh-so-happy!
Thank you very much for sharing this

probably the best marker tutorial i've seen
extremely helpful!
but i see that the scan must be altered somewhat to make the colors right

KeyshaKitty In reply to Nin-jueTheKirin [2010-12-12 06:09:57 +0000 UTC]
The photos actually give the wrong impression that the colours on the original are warmer. They're actually a lot like the scan itself.
The reason being I work on most of this until the early hours of the morning - so the photos show the warm lighting of the room on the image from artificial lights.

Hey what brand of A4 Card paper do you use? I tried Googling for some but all I could find was printer paper. Any suggestions on what type you use?

KeyshaKitty In reply to Schreibaby-Zephyr [2010-03-04 08:06:56 +0000 UTC]
Don't think I could be of much help with that, sorry. I use a New Zealand brand. You just basically have to look for a paper with a high GSM. The higher the better. I suggest 200gsm +

Schreibaby-Zephyr In reply to KeyshaKitty [2010-03-04 08:22:38 +0000 UTC]
I think that would suffice, cuz I just don't like having to use a type of paper and find out the inks bleed onto it. C:

I found this very interesting! I've seen you do tutorials on curls, and avoid marker bleeds and such, but this is such a concrete and thorough tutorial of your whole drawing process! It's well made, and I enjoyed reading and watching the progress! And especially so when it's our beloved old school Jak and Daxter.
Nice work, hon!
