Lovely little tool. Firstly, congratulations on the DD.

Now I haven't tried this out yet (I might have a more extensive look later since I'm doing prints for =lady-maree ) but a couple of suggestions I have are:

1) one that's been echoed by many, is the option to customise the border colour.
2) allow a secondary border to be put in. What I mean by this is for instance if I gave a photo a black background, but wanted to give a thin white box around the photo (not directly around it, a few pixels further out) would it be too much trouble to allow multiple borders to be applied to a piece?

Awesome ingenuity (sp?). Would be awesome to see this be implemented officially in the Basic Prints program.

Yes, a colored border will have to be implemented quickly. I'll get to that next week hopefully. Your multiple borders idea Is an interesting one. I'll see what I can do. In fact, just from typing this I got a couple ideas of how I can do it. I'll keep you posted!

I am a little confused.. I make everything in photoshop and use a calculator... what does this do that photoshop cant?
( not being rude, I am just confused )

It's not meant to replace photoshop, just make it eaier to calculate a lot of things at once. This program doesn't actually add the borders it just does all the math and provides a preview of what it will look like. In the future I hope to enable the user to send the data to photoshop where photoshop will do all the work of actually adding the borders to the image and saving out the file to a folder. But until then, Deviant Bordermaker is like a calculator. Download it and give it a try. You'll see how this can be handy (and faster).

Thanks for your great tool!

kingkool6 In reply to SeaFairy [2005-04-21 22:51:40 +0000 UTC]

This will be an easy feature to add. And I already thought about adding it way before submitting it here. But I couldn't really think of a good way to select different colors other than asking people to look up hex codes. But in the next release it will be there. Hopefully with some other things. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I want this to be a very flexible tool for different people.

SeaFairy In reply to kingkool6 [2005-04-21 23:21:14 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh pls hurry with the black. I only use black or white :flitry:
why, I think a code is just fine.
Suggestion? Here you go:
You know photoshop? There is a thing with which you select a colour out of the painting. AND the same tool also lets you select a colour out of a colourscheme (you get there by double-clicking one of the two coloures in the tool-bar) and yes..include it..and forget ll troubles about the code but I guess it is far more difficult! But I'd say 80% is black or white out there, out of neutrality reasons..

kingkool6 In reply to SeaFairy [2005-04-22 01:10:08 +0000 UTC]

Well I can put in the changes, which is fairly simple to do, it's just i don't really have time this weekend. But, I can help you out a little bit since you really want black!

ok if you open up preview.htm in any kind of web editor (even something as simple as notepad will do) find this line of code:

document.write('

') //Writes the table used to create the border plugging in the total height and width calculated from the previous page and adjusted to the scale.

Now just replace the #FFFFFF with any other color code. In your case, black is #000000. Then save and there you go. I'll make it easier to pick any color soon. Hope this helps!

I had an idea for something like this about a little less than a year ago. I thought I had found someone who could code it out for me, but I was wrong. Finally 10 weeks ago I was taking a javascript class when I realized I could actually get this idea into reality. A lot of it was inspired by PARF, which can be found here on DA somewhere. But it didn't work right and was too finicky. So here it is, Deviant Bordermaker 1.5

Usefullness is key when making a program like this. I knew I got a DD when I checked my messages and I had over 10M and a bunch of comments to boot. It's been growing steady all day, and I plan to follow up on every single and comment.

this should have a link of its own on DA
It would be a good idea to have a link to it in the FAQ. I'll have to look into that.

If you have any ideas for features or any other way to improve it let me know.

Maybe support for tiff if that's possible.

Hmmm Check this out [link] The problem with tiff is it isn't supported by web browsers. Try the plug-in and see what happens. Also, let me know the results of your little experiment.

This is a remarkable program. I will have to start using it all the time now. It's even useful for deviants who aren't photographers (I know there aren't many non-photographers, with print accounts), and I can use this little app to crop shots of my paintings in different cuts for size changes. Great stuff----it completely enhances the usability of a print account, and a must-have app for anyone interested in prints. I wish more people knew about this, and I hope more people find it after the daily dev.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kingkool6 In reply to greydawg [2005-04-21 23:04:57 +0000 UTC]

Yea a lot of people have 'd it today. And the word is spreading. Hopefully everyone who 'd it will write something about it in their journals. The only downside of the Daily Dev is the description. This program would be just as handy for anyone who wants to add borders to their deviations. So it could be a must have for anyone submitting imagery to DA. Oh well, there is always 2.0

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

greydawg In reply to kingkool6 [2005-04-22 13:46:53 +0000 UTC]

It's just such a cool idea---I have programs that make it easy to do the same thing with borders, but I only crop and border my picutres just for the sake of putting stuff on DA. And now this program makes it basically fool-proof (and future-proof). Not only does it make sense, but it makes me feel like DA really wants more people to create prints, and I gotta support that. I've heard lots of different complaints about DA as a whole lately, but if you ask me I think it's only getting better, and this little app sealed the deal for me.
Thanks again KK6!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kingkool6 In reply to greydawg [2005-04-22 20:39:17 +0000 UTC]

DA had nothing to do with this. It was all from me. But they did give me the DD, which proves they support the idea. I just hated how long and complicated the print submission process takes. Hope to see some prints from you soon.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

greydawg In reply to kingkool6 [2005-04-23 17:30:24 +0000 UTC]

I know you are the one that made it, not DA. But you made it FOR DA, right? I'm just saying I think it's outstanding that people in this community do things like that, and makes the whole process more accessable for other deviants. It's just a very clever app and without that daily dev, I probably never would have known about it.
Thanks again KK6!
