Description My friend asked me to repair the seam on the neck of his cheetah model and repaint it (you can see the original in the left top corner).

I also repaired some defects of moulding and made the tail a little longer. I didn't resculpt paws, so I needed to use cartoonish style of painting for them.

Wind Spirit

I love these! I still have an old tiger figurine that I tried to repaint years ago, but I stopped because the paint wouldn't cover at all. The sculpt itself is nice (it was just one of those horrible yellow paint jobs with 8 airbrush stripes), and I'd like to finish it one day! What do you recommend to use for painting it? I used acrylics back then, but maybe they were just too low quality.

Oops, read your comment just now. I'm sorry
I'm using acrylic for painting. It's one of the best Russian painting acrylics. But I degrease figurines by washing it with the soap. If the paint is still make drops, I use a lustreless varnish. And some paints need prime coating with white color. Otherwise you'll see the colour under that paints.

That's really an awesome work! Especially compared with the original model. The shape is already usable, but the coloring/painting "out of the box" and the eyes are a bad joke... I know, they made them in China as children toys for a few cents and the painters have only a few seconds for coloring them... But you work pulled it out and turned a cheap toy into a realistic looking piece of art!

I'm very glad to hear it
I was surprised the shape was usable and needed just some touches And I still think it's possible to choose a better color and stencil to make painting much better. Guess it's the question of marketing, may be they just don't need it

What's the best paint to use so you won't get rid of the texture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kivuli In reply to Spinogrl2000 [2013-01-18 09:10:09 +0000 UTC]

I use acrylic, but people also use nitro dye. If you make a thin layers of paints, it won't ruin your texture. But texture also have to be quite raised. I guess it's good if it's 0.5 mm and more, though 0.2 or even less also will be noticeable at miniatures.

Spinogrl2000 In reply to Kivuli [2013-01-19 00:42:29 +0000 UTC]

Do you recommend I paint over what's already painted or should I do a few layers of white to make sure it's even toned all over and then layer it? Like paint all over with the main pelt color and ad the rest of it one at a time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kivuli In reply to Spinogrl2000 [2013-01-19 22:06:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you should use white in most cases. Yellow, ochre, orange, some red hues, blue, some green hues - they couldn't cover quite dark underpainting if you use usual artistic acrylic paints (without special spreading capacity). So white color or white primer is the best.

Lol, that original paint job looks so cheap and sloppy... But you did a great job fixing this model (I especially like those eyes, they look really realistic) !

Kivuli In reply to Sherval [2012-03-28 20:50:15 +0000 UTC]

But it was quick, easy and unexpensive
Eyes are my favorite part, it's so easy to make them realistic

What type of paints do you use and waht technique? I´m colecting Schleich figures and I need some old models repair. I have only revels paints for plastic models of aircraft.

I use acrylic paints for artists with air brush, small details like spots draw with small usual brush. Guess, you can use some other matted paints. And I cover it with matted varnish just in case.

how did you fix the seam?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kivuli In reply to xXMeganMavelousXx [2011-11-25 17:02:16 +0000 UTC]

I removed too high places with a knife (made it a little lower) and sandpaper and used Milliput to level everything. I also made hairs on Milliput before it dry up to make it invisible after painting.

Kivuli In reply to RainMadMorld [2011-09-29 19:38:11 +0000 UTC]

Kivuli In reply to RainMadMorld [2011-09-30 13:37:41 +0000 UTC]
