I have a question? I found a spider here in Washington State that looks and has the body shape and size of a female Black Widow Spider.... but the markings on it's rump are white instead of red and there is a single tiiiny extra spots to each side of the hourglass.
Do you have any advise on what this could mean or be? I still have the spider but it's impossible to take a picture of.. and i'm not willing to upset or scare it into a better photo-taking spot.

I'm no bug expert, but if you can get a shot of it, I recommend posting it up here for identification: bugguide.net/node/view/6/bgima…

Thanks, I spent hours looking in native spiders, I think it's a false black-widow or
Steatoda grossa, the spider looks just about right.
Thanks for a response. I'll still try to get a picture though. She's gorgeous. I had no idea there was other spiders that looked like Black Widows either, like the Redback. >.<

Nice shot. I used to have a female widow that was about the size of a penny took a few shots of her when I found her in the wild

Dangerous little Bitch ain't she? She is beautiful as well as deceptively deadly. I like black widows. But then again they are best not in my personal space. Bad-ass picture.

Did you know that common daddy long legs spiders have more lethal poison in them? They just can't open their jaws wide enough to bite most animals, such as humans. Great picture

I found one of these under the stairs in my house. I ran to get my camera, but my dad accidentally killed it before I could get any pictures (it was accident, he was trying to move it into better light for me) Such a shame...
Awesome shot~ Forever jealous ;D

i love the shot. i love the spider, only anything female can be so beautiful and yet totally fatal.
awesome photo. agree with the other guy about the leg being a little distracting, but what the hell, what do i know?
excellent work.

yeah, i have a love hate relationship with these little buggers. my whole backyard was infested with 'em. I had eventually had webs connecting all around my back patio.. i ended up getting a huge thing of insecticide, and mass murdered them all.

Great shot, how'd you keep it from running away? Are you using the smallest aperture possible? That leg in front being out of focus bothers me a little but there's only so much you can do. I love the composition here though!

no, this was probably around F11-F16... i have some at the max, F45, but the sharpness gets really soft when it's stopped all the way down with this lens.
what i could do, is make a composite of both...
heres what it looks like at F45:

heres what it looks like blended:

I see what you mean, I think the composite is the best aesthetically but the sharpness isn't quiet there even in that one. Tough problem.
