i read that the 'leaked' copy was a stolen hack and isn't even CLOSE to the finished product. Cuzz, you know, even after the original release date of Sept 30, 2003, Valve took it BACK and made some serious changes to game data and physics. Since the game's physics' algorithsms were stolen, they re-built the engine, and now it's told to be about 4 times better.
i was a little surprised to find THiS kind of photo on DA...being as how i've never seen anything else like this after 2 years of obsessively reading articles online. How DiD you get this 'leaked' copy, anyway? i'm just so shocked and surprised to see YOU got a copy back in Nov, 2002!! And to think the REAL release isn't until Nov 1st if THiS year.

What happened was some guys in Germany hacked into Valve's computer(s) which had a whole bunch of game content, copied it, and distributed it to mass amounts of people... Valve didn't "take it back" because it wasn't "taken" in the first place... when data is stolen, it's just copied. Even if the hacker(s) did delete the data on that particular computer(s), I'm sure that wasn't the only place Valve had stored it. You're right about it not being complete of course... several maps are untextured and unfinished, as are the HUD, many weapons, and sounds too. I doubt they "re-built" the Source Engine (game engine) or Havok Engine (physics engine), but I do know as a fact that they have modified many of the maps, weapon models, character models, and other things (evident in the E3 2004 videos) since the leak.
The version that was leaked was nowhere near being complete. If I had to put a number on it, I would say that it was about 30% complete. The only maps that were 100% finished were the ones that you see in the E3 2003 videos... the rest were in need of serious work. If that version was EVERYTHING that Valve had completed at the time it was leaked, there would have been no way in hell that they would have made a Sept 2003 release. Severly incomplete.
As for this photograph, it is simply a photomanipulation made by someone by the name of NachoKing. No one knows what the discs themselves will look like. If you read the description, it says "I did not have any participation in the creation of this image. Β©NachoKing" Therefore, I do not have in my posession any kind of physical copy of HL2 or HL2 leak... simply a virtual copy that I downloaded.
This image was CREATED sometime in 2004, not 2002.... you probably read the "deviant since Nov 13, 2002" and got confused... if you look above the image, it says I posted this on Jul 12, 2004.
Keep in mind that I DO plan on purchasing a legal (and fully complete) copy of HL2 when it is released. And its not necesarily going to be on November 1st... its all up to Vivendi on when they complete reviewing the Release Candidate that Valve submitted to them a few weeks ago. After that, they will either give the OK for Gold (the master copy) or tell Valve that it isn't complete yet, and to make changes.

THANKS for correction. i guess i was too excited to find game discs, i'd lost my head. =^-^=;
When it comes to HalfLife2, i often do that. i've been waiting since December of 99 to play it and finish off the HalfLife experience...but i'm almost certain that there'll be another huge plot hole and we'll then be waiting for HL3. LOL
Thanks for understand...most anyone else'd probably have jumped me and beat me with a crowbar for making such an obviously avoidable mistake. LOL Forgive my Gordon-deprived heart~!!

LOL no problem at all! I've been exactly the same way! Here's an interesting article you should read which talks about the whole HL1/HL2 plot and goes into extreme detail... it gets you drooling in anticipation for the game to come out!! A lot is speculation, but he proves some quite valid points. It also really gets you thinking about the G-Man and the alien world Xen and Gordon's role in all of this...

Woooow~!! Thanks SO much!! i've been looking for stuff like this. i honestly think this is the best site thus far for HL2 info. Most other sites i found were out of date, they were't taken care of, there was more whining than anything worth reading and nobody was taking the game (story-wise) seriously. it seemed to to me like everybody just wants to PLAY the GAME...as apposed to EXPERiENCiNG the STORY.
in my opnion, the long wait should be well worth it. And HL2 will be probably the firt legitimate peice of software i'll have bought within the last 6 years!! i'm NOT pirating this one, this puppy's MiNE and i'm buying it with my own dead presidents!! LOL You really helped me out, my friend. Thanks a bunch.

And just to go along with all the HL2 hype around the net, i've kinda been composing some of my own little fan-works.
*cough* [link] *cough* More to come later too...

YEAH! that site is awesome!! You should check back often, because whenever Gabe Newell (Valve's CEO) has an important announcement to make, he posts on THOSE forums and it shows up on the front page!
Just noticed... they have a new article up today... it compares HL1 and HL2 with side-by-side screenshots of different characters... its amazing to see how much progress has been made in the last 6 years.

So i read. i saw a few of those comparison photos in EGM (Electric Gaming Monthly) and PC Gamer. Have you -by chance- played HL : BLueShift? The game comes with a 'hi-def' upgrade for the Original HL and Opposing Force. it certainly doesn't make the game into HL2, but it ups the poly-count almost 2 times, re-textures just about everything, reskins just about everybody and reskins all the weapons. it looks pretty cool. To the point that i'm now playing through HL again for the 6th time, just to see all the updates.
...by the way, i read that they're releasing the Source engine for the original HL as an upgrade just like the BlueShift upgrade. i may even play through a 7th or 8th time if it's really worth it. i'm also curious if anybody's ever written an FAQ or log of all the G-Man's locations. LOL Know of any?

Yes, actually! I've played (and beaten) Half-Life original, Half-Life: Opposing Force, and Half-Life: Blue Shift. I loved the hi-def pack so much, that I took the pipe wrench model and put it in my TFC folder so it replaced the engineer's wrench! And replaced the crowbar too. Have you ever played TFC or CS? I used to be addicted to Counter-Strike, but then I switched to Team Fortress Classic for a few years... and now I'm back to Counter-Strike! It's so addicting, I gotta play at least 3 hours a day to get my fix

No, i couldn't play either of those games even if i wanted to. The problem is that i'm stuck with a 56K connection speed, and i can't stand shooters without story or anything, so bots prove no use to me either. Unreal Tourni had proven entertaining for a long while, but that's only cuzz the bots were SMART and my friends got together every other weekend for a small LAN party. Nobody'd play TFC or anything with me, even if i asked. We're all too busy playing FarCry, MultiTheft Auto and Unreal Tourni.
So i guess i'm stuck with the one-player games and mods of HL...
...but of course FarCry, Doom3 and GTAiii/Vice have all kept me busy and entertained until HL2 comes out. i can only hope to find something else to keep me busy until then though. i've done everything and now even GTA seems boring.

grr you suck so much, for a few reasons.
1. you have a badass comp.
2. you have a pc that can handle HL2.
3. you will probly play HL2, i most likly will not.
4. you can use highend programs the way they were ment to be used.

LOL thanks! I admit that you're right about all of the above, but you should try playing HL2 anyway! You can always turn the display settings way down so your computer can actually handle it!
