Description
The third addition to my season series. This time Spring.
Some throughts I had while painting this:
Spring has to fight her way out of the grasp of Winter before she can fully blossom.
Thus the webish cocoon thing at the bottom of her dress.
The dress itself is supposed to mimic a caterpillar at the bottom and the floating veils should sympolize the transformation into a butterfly (probably a bit too much symbolism and suger hmm?)..
I added the cloudy weather because April belongs to Spring and I really hate the moody character of that Month..you can have sun and the next time clouds coming in and rain for hours..
Some other things which are personal to me have been added as well but I am not going to bore you with that
I used a smiliar picture of myself for the arms and hands (didn't help much though - I shouldn't have chosen that pose to start with...) and all different kind of butterfly pictures and flowers (mainly of chinese cherry trees and Magnolias (spelling?))
No references for the clothing or anything else
Hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much!
Specially the threads took an insane amount of time and I-don't-know-how-many brushstrokes

Exzellent gemalt!

I love how everything appears to be glistening in the background, like the plants are wet with melted snow or an early april shower.... so beautiful! I love that shade of pinkish-purple color. Everything is awesome... it's really neat how you added the out-of-focus magnolia (I think you spelled it right...) and petals! It adds so much depth. This is so awesome. I can't wait to see Lady Summer!

Gorgeous! I can see the chrysalis quite clearly, now. I like the purple because early spring is coolish even here in Texas. Her arms and hands are stunning. Extreme foreshortening is so difficult, becuse you cant use shading, etc. That blurred great petal coming toward the viewer's right eye adds a lot to the action of the piece.

Thank you very much for another lovely comment
And god yes...that foreshortening was a poor decision on my part..it's almost impossible to shade this position.

Nicely done, Tascha. Please forgive me for possibly sounding unenthusiastic. My back hurts so much today that it is difficult to think tidily. No painting for me today, darnit.

Thanks a lot for the sympathetic understanding. I just have a whole new set of "how not to over-work and make your back hurt" rules that I have to get used to. I'll be good.

Yay, it's finally done! Glad you stopped teasing us with the WIPs..
Her hands turned out really awesome And I love the blurred petals.. they give the picture a more alive feeling. She is so beautiful <3
I love symbolism in pictures, because it really gives pictures a lot more depth. I wouldn't mind if you shared more about the painting, but it's okay if that stuff is too personal for you
It's just really, really awesome... the colours, the flow.. everything!
By the way, my birthday's in April... sadly enough, my mood changes as fast as April weather does =/ Oh well...

hehe I can tell you why I chose those colors.
Mainly I was thinking of white, lila and green for several reasons:
First of all it reminds me of those white Calla lilies and the chinese cherry tree my parents had in their garden.
Second, spring is always the time when we have tradefairs here in Switzerland. When I was a child I always got those very sweet pinkish bubble gums at those traidfares. They taste horrible, way too sweet and synthetic. On top they lose taste after some minutes.
However the amazing thing about those bubble gum was, that you could do HUGE bubbles.
I always tried to make the bubble so big I could look through them and everything looked lila purplish.
Childhood memories

Thank you for sharing your memories with me I'd love to try those buble gums.. I've always wanted to make HUGE baloons, but I was never able too - I either have wrong methods, or bubble gums here suck
