Description The third addition to my season series.

This time Spring.
Some throughts I had while painting this:

Spring has to fight her way out of the grasp of Winter before she can fully blossom.
Thus the webish cocoon thing at the bottom of her dress.

The dress itself is supposed to mimic a caterpillar at the bottom and the floating veils should sympolize the transformation into a butterfly (probably a bit too much symbolism and suger hmm?)..

I added the cloudy weather because April belongs to Spring and I really hate the moody character of that Month..you can have sun and the next time clouds coming in and rain for hours..

Some other things which are personal to me have been added as well but I am not going to bore you with that (the things that made me chose the color scheme above all).

I used a smiliar picture of myself for the arms and hands (didn't help much though - I shouldn't have chosen that pose to start with...) and all different kind of butterfly pictures and flowers (mainly of chinese cherry trees and Magnolias (spelling?))
No references for the clothing or anything else

Hope you enjoy!

looks amazing, this one is the preetest painting of yours for my opinion
2 question:
1- did you used refrance for the face (i did'nt understand from the content if it's yes or no)
2- just from curiosity, henning helped you to get improve?

Kyena In reply to IdoHart [2005-08-09 22:53:34 +0000 UTC]

1 - none in particular no
2 - well, we critique each others work so you could say we are definately learning from eachother - I guess. However we have extremely different techniques to approach a painting and different techniques while painting.

the close up flowers are just amazing , liked how they out of focus , i like to do that on my painting too

It's very much inspired by how photographs work. Since my parents are photographers I grow up with in and out of focuse effects

thanks - I am ok with how it turned out - I just wish I would have used a different pose. The foreshortening on the hands/shouder area is such a pain and almost impossible to shade >_<

Beuatiful as always. I really admire your painting skills. The soft focus on the flower in the foreground really sells the piece in my opinion.

i like the way theres like twinkles of lense flare from the humidity that blurs the background, focusing attention to the things that are most important, surprisingly the purples and greens in this work really well together, i definitely like the symbolism though nice work, this is definitely another great addition to your seasons series

Kyena In reply to geeiaabidge [2005-08-09 22:15:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for noticing! That was pretty much what I was going for. You know all the tiny glittering the trees and grass has during early mornings in Spring - from the humidity and the air smells fresh

yes spring does have that undeniably fresh scent, it definitely comes through in this painting ... lol, i wonder when scent will go fully digital

Thats flippin fantastic, Kyena. Your technique has improved considerably i think. Especially now that you have floating objects like the leaves, the placement of the flowers etc. It gives such wonderfull 3 dimensionality to your works. I am very impressed.....

Congratulations on a fine effort Kyena

Thank you so much Marley!
I am pretty much trying out new things. Above all totally different color schemes and above all on and out of focus elements to creat depth. Still much to learn but I already learned some new things while working on this. Now I just need to work bigger

I like this pretty much.
Looks like you've found a faster way to paint - the only thing that desturbs me is the empty space at the right buttom, compared to all the stuff in the left corner (buttom) it looks unbalanced.

(Hope you get what I'm trying to say I'm badly tired today. :/)

Kyena In reply to reilanchan [2005-08-09 22:20:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes I know what you mean - it doesn't bother me at all though.
I tend to downsize my paintings to thumbnail size to check the overall feel.

Thanks for the feedback though

I think you made this piece interesting by blurring the petals and the flower that is closest to the viewer. It's a bit like a photogaph, and the whole effect just makes it unique.

Kyena In reply to IndigoEve [2005-08-09 22:20:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks
I am currently experimenting with those effects to create both interest and more depth to my paintings.
