Description
Wohoooo, look who's joining the league of reference sheets. Never expected that? I know I never did.Occasionally, when they wanna draw me, people have been complaining there's no decent ref sheet for me (or no at all). I've been ignoring that fact because I kiiiinda didn't wanna join in that vogue? The abbreviation OC gives me an unpleasant mainstream cringe. (So I'll appreciate it if you don't call my characters that. They are UNoriginal characters if you like, lol.) Buuuut apparently recently that has been changed. Not long ago, when one of my best friends came to visit, there was some talking about ref sheets, some collaboration work, and somewhere among that, somehow he managed to inspire me try make a few of my own.
So there will be some of that now, from time to time. Blame goes entirely to FelisGlacialis - Thank you so much mate, I am glad you convinced me to get myself to it
I decided to start with one depicting myself. It seemed like the easiest thing to begin with. Besides, I had actually been thinking of that - for myself in particular - since a long time ago. In fact, even started working on one, but it was digital and I never got to finish it. I figured doing the most substantial part traditionally makes it easier and less time consuming. Yep, once again I'm cheating around with my pencils, la la la. As for this, this is a weird blend of my current self and my spiritual self / the self that sometimes appears in my own (fantasy) stories - and as such naturally he has his own background and story for the world I've been building. So here you won't be able to tell where reality ends and "fantasy" begins. I am not going to tell either, because I kinda like it when they are sorta one. Welcome to my world.

LIFE STORY
Lapis was born in Castle Atlantis, in the noble House of Del'Eryth, the lesser son of Persital del'Eryth The Peacekeeper. Lapis spent the first years of his life in the family castle, often wandering the surrounding mountain woodlands with his mother, learning about Nature and the basics of magick, or delving into science and arts with his father. Upon entering adolescence, according to the Family tradition, he was sent to the faraway ice continent of Freyr (a place of his choice), where he spend his youth under the guidance and care of his father's ally, the prince of the snow elves who live along the coast. During the decades on the antarctic continent, he studied and trained combat skills from some of the elven finest; he also liked to roam the frozen wilderness, where he was learning how to survive in the harsh environment that became as his second home.
After he finished his studies and returned home, Lapis decided to travel the world and explore the wonders of Ætheris. He spent most of his life wandering far and wide, exploring the wilderness to learn about Nature and observe the various creatures of his homeworld in their natural life. His travels brought him to many foreign realms too, where he learned about the culture and history of the nations he came across. He sought adventure wherever he went and joined many battles for any cause that he deemed just. Quick to act and spring right in the center of events, even somewhat reckless in his undertakings, he often got himself into a whole lot of trouble, but thanks to that many times he would emerge the hero of the day. He never stayed anywhere for long though, and as soon as the quest was over and there were no more battles to win, Lapis would move on and travel to another land to look for the next adventure or worthy cause. Despite his way of life was pretty much that of a rogue, he never joined the Rogue's Guild and was rather a wandering freelancer. Several times in his life his journeys took him to other worlds, though he never lingered in any of them for long. Rumours have it he once found the Universeity of Magick - a magickal place which travels between dimensions along with a whole cluster of its own imaginary dimensions where Masters teach magick of all the various schools and spheres in the most favourable environment possible. He spent a few years in the Universeity, which is partially how he gained his formidable magickal power.
Later in life Lapis chanced upon a couple of Demons who took him to their world where he met Satan Lucifer for the first time. Although intimidated at first, Lapis soon came to like the Demon Lord and as he learned more about Him and His ways, the dragon respected Him deeply and became His loyal ally. Many times he would join the Demon forces on their battles and missions in different worlds, aiding their cause against the enemy he recognized as his own as well. He found good friends among the Demons and sincerely liked his time with them, but remained true to his wandering, independent nature regardless. That was until during one of his random journeys he met a pirate by the name of Tiarra and fell in love. However, they got to spend just few months together, then Tiarra fell in battle against the enemy. Two years after Tiarra's death Lapis travelled to Hell and plegded allegiance to Satan Lucifer. Thus Hell became his new home.
OCCUPATIONS
Lapis' great passion has always been art and music, inherited by his dragon parents. He learned to play piano from his father and harp, flute and guitar from his mother, as well as singing, while listening to the singing duet of them both - one of his most beautiful childhood memories. Art was something he did from time to time, learning mostly on his own, but also from his father. During his travels around the world he often sketched the different creatures he found to better describe their life and biology, and even the sceneries that inspired and impressed him. Some of those sketches he later made into more sophisticated artworks. He seldom carried a musical instrument during his journeys, but when he had company he often borrowed one from someone local and took the role of the bard around the fire in the nights of repose. When he was alone in the wilderness, he sometimes sang to himself, to the birds and to the stars instead.
Although he never really sought to be a writer or a poet, the stories Lapis heard as he traveled often inspired him to write them down. He wrote a few novels and many shorter stories during his journeying life, countless poems and even songs, but also a lot of scientific writings, mostly on the biology of the creatures he encountered and observed. In his late life, in Hell, he began to write philosophical and spiritual works and that became one of his primary occupations for a while.
Although nowadays he doesn't actively use magick, Lapis was a powerful sorcerer in his days of adventure and journeys. He started learning the basics of magick as a whelp and by the time he was a full-fledged adventurer magick was his second nature. With his favourite spells - fireballs and chain lightnings, he had the power to lay waste to small armies on his own, and those abilities won many battles for him and his allies. However, in the last battle with Tiarra, one of his most destructive spells was deflected by the enemy, rebounded and hit his mate, killing her. That was the last time Lapis used magick in battle. Later, after he pledged himself to Satan Lucifer, he gave up most of his magick. Although his previous power is still dormant in him, he hasn't used it since.

Technique: all elements drawn by hand with graphite / color pencils and ink fineliner. Background and text were added digitally.
Actually I have been pondering for a while what to do for a background. I could have left it blank of course, but I wanted to add something unintrusive to compliment the art and reflect my personality in some way. In fact, I knew what kind of background I'd like, but the question was how to do it without it taking too much effort and time. There, I said it. I wanted the background to be easy and quick to do - nothing wrong with that really. So pencil would have fitted better with the rest of the drawing, but that would take forever - besides, it is not so good for simplified, vague background work. Watercolor would have been ideal, but it's not my thing. Digital could be made vague and be rather quick, but wouldn't fit with the pencil at all. After pondering for some time I added a paper texture, painted a vague background of blue fire, blue northern lights, and blue lightning, ran the pencil part through a filter to "digitalize" it a bit, ran the soft digital background through another filter to "roughen" it a bit, hoping that will make them blend together a bit better.... then figured I can blend in a watercolor texture on top of that too. That kinda did the trick and added more texture and contrast to the background too without making it intrusive. So I am rather satisfied with the result. Besides, it was quick and easy.
I might say the tattoo, medallion, ring and wristband I do have in this life too. Regarding drawing those details, I love Pentagrams, but they are a pain to draw and make perfectly symmetrical. Still can't do it without using my medallion as a template. They are a pain to draw in perspective too (and templates don't work), but Hell am I having fun XD Also, resurrecting my old time technique of drawing metal surfaces up close, just random strokes of shading with stark edges between shadow and highlight here and there and voila XD I'm even happy with the little chain. What else.... Sigils were drawn by hand, but naturally I used a template for them too - they just have to be accurate.
Textures for the background:
- Paper from www.photos-public-domain.com
- Watercolor from www.onlygfx.com
Reference for the jewelry (by nature) is my own possession.
Graphite pencils, color pencils, ink fineliner on 30 x 20 paper.
Background and text done in Ps CS6 with Wacom Intuos4.

Thank you so much, dear friend! I'm really happy you enjoy.
And well, it's true that speaking of oneself (or any other spirit we actually know) as a "character" is awkward and I don't really like it, but I guess that's a way to present things to non-spiritual people without it being too wtf. Even if lately I actually avoid that, but if needed, you can always hide behind the "character" agenda, as weird as it is
I'm glad you enjoy reading too. I did wonder if I am disclosing a bit too much, but then indeed most people will never give it a thought of how personal this really is.... I guess? Hopefully, lol XD

Indeed.
Well, I don't know if that helps, but the truth is, you know your story deep down, you just need to delve deeper and discover it. Follow your feel, what feels right IS right.

Thank you so very much for these words, it really means a lot. I often wonder if I'm just crazy to write walls of texts to my drawings. Well, I enjoy it, but it really means a lot to me when others enjoy reading and even appreciate. Thank you once more

Oh, but you misunderstood me about the sword. The sword / whatever weapon I make it into I use fairly often. It's the Hellfire (blue flame in my right hand) that I don't use often, even if I can summon it.
