Oh my! You're channeling Ann!
Thanks for the great comment! Someone else mentioned a roller coaster as well.

Something wonderfully heraldic about this, like raised pikes and oriflammes before the massed ranks behind - I guess there'd be no choice but to go with the flow

Thanks for the wonderful imagery! An army of fractalists...each waving their favorite mouse, perhaps?
We need a general. Wanna volunteer?

Corded mice, I think - there's a word for a piece of rope with weights at both ends that can be flung around the neck of a quarry, but it eludes me... Still, it would need more than a USB plug as counterweight OK, I'll volunteer, but we also need, in true fractal tradition, the bearer of the bearer of the bearer of the... standard

LaPurr In reply to IDeviant [2006-10-12 07:15:18 +0000 UTC]
You're thinking of a 'bola'. Perhaps we could use cordless phones and digital cameras as counterweights? The bearer of the bearer of the bearer of the...standard would all have to be clones: from a distance they would appear to diminishing in size but as one got closer, they would prove to be identical to every other bearer. An infinite army. Unless of course the enemy found a way to limit our iterations.
Okay, General, what's our next move?

IDeviant In reply to LaPurr [2006-10-12 09:53:31 +0000 UTC]
That's the one! I tried 'bolus', but of course... "Limit our iterations"? Sounds extremely painful Now, our next move: we infiltrate mixed-media art clubs with a view to promoting and propagating fractal art towards the obvious conclusion of world domination
Of course, we'll have to contain infighting regarding IFS vs Mandelbrot, Apophysis vs UF, "who is this Lyapunov person anyway?"... (thanks, Douglas, for that last one!)

LaPurr In reply to IDeviant [2006-10-12 19:20:22 +0000 UTC]
Ah, world domination via the fractal coup!
With you as our General, the dream may finally be within reach.
Unfortunately, the world domination might turn out to be easier than controlling infighting.
Apophysis---><---UF
IFS---><---Mandelbrot

Yes, history is full of such examples Perhaps retirement is the best option - to continue the quest for the perfect fractal alone, strictly Apophysis of course, which incidentally produces far superior art to any of those other pretenders

If I'd known about this bias of yours before, I would never have suggested that you be our general. I'm starting to wonder if the UF troops would have been like those unidentified members of an away team on Star Trek: always dying while the Apo troops made it back to the ship.
I'm so completely disillusioned now.

IDeviant In reply to LaPurr [2006-10-16 10:34:38 +0000 UTC]
The evidence was there, you just never looked... into my gallery, not a single UF piece. Cynics would say that proves I'm a tight git

I know you use Apo, but what surprised me was the thought of you volunteering to lead an army of mixed program users when you're so obviously partisan. You would have kept back your beloved Apo troops and sent the rest of us into the most dangerous situations first.
Would you have used the FE troops as point?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
IDeviant In reply to LaPurr [2006-10-17 06:27:59 +0000 UTC]
Oh dear, I wouldn't have made much of a General - I don't even know what "point" means in this context But my plan would have been clandestine, an operation of seduction... therefore Apo in the vanguard
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LaPurr In reply to IDeviant [2006-10-17 07:46:02 +0000 UTC]
Point means reconnaissance, the ones who would be in trouble first, the ones who would be hurt first...just like the unidentified members of a Star Trek away team. The ones whose names you never know. The ones you never miss. The ones you don't care about. Expendable.
Your partisan views would have kept your Apo troops behind the point troops. Even if it were to have been, as you say, an operation of seduction, someone would have had to go in first. You would never have considered your beloved Apo troops to be that expendable and I simply wouldn't have been able to trust a General who declares his preference for some program users over others.
I'm so disappointed.

That beautifully subtle background is just fahbulous dahling ! And combined with the greens & golds, & the wonderful shapes make for one fantastic roller coaster of a ride fractal. In fact, that was my first thought when I saw this.
Beautifully done Kat. An A+ in your homework for sure.

You're welcome for both the words and fav!
I couldn't resist with that price tag! I just started looking at the 1st tutorial....just the small setting change makes a big change in the image! My husband told me that he's interested in it too.....we'll see on that one!
But I plan to try to learn it....I'm just afraid that my 1st tries will be puny in comparison to the ones I see everyone else putting up that have oodles of layers to them! I have sooooo much to learn!
