I don't mind a few but I'm really not a teacher. I also don't do things the way they say in the tuts and I've had to unlearn some bad habits because I'm primarily self-taught. I'll do what I can when I can, but don't expect too much!

Thanks! Besides, I don't think my 1st questions will be anything too complicated! But hey....you know alot more than I do!

Quick and easy I can do, but more than that isn't fun at all. My advice is always to read the tutorial that comes with the program.
Janet Parke, the woman who teaches the UF class I'm taking, wrote the tutorial for UF and you'll be getting the best teacher for this program you could possibly ask for. I just don't have the time or patience for long answers; it's too difficult for me to sit down and try to figure out just what it is I actually do, let alone try and type it out in a coherent manner. Besides, if the person doesn't know the program, my answers won't make much sense anyway.
Like I said, I'll do what I can when I can but I'm not making any promises. So, ask away and we'll see if I even know the answer!

If you ask too much, I'll just slap you a few times. I think you'll get the hint, don't you?

Thanks for the comment and fav, hon!
No masks, just gradient transparency. The difference is that masks are used as shapes to apply textures, etc., while gradient transparency is a masked shape without textures being applied to the adjoining layer. Make sense? It's essentially a mask without the functions of a mask. Janet says these are legal, but real masks aren't allowed in this class.

Now I'm really ; I'm glad Janet is teaching and not you
I do like the image though; is this Lesson 6 homework?

Put it this way: you can make a shape using a mask/gradient transparency, but you can't use it as an adjoining layer to apply texture to just that place on the image. Does that make more sense?

I can't remember where it is on the class bulletin board, but Janet may explain it much better.

She explained it in one of the threads when I asked about masks versus gradient transparency. She says it pretty close to the way I just did.
Yeah, this is homework for this week.

Where's the smiley for "green with jealousy"?
Colours are magnificent, as always, and the masking is .... .... Textures fab. Flow and overall look superb.
Not a bad effort, I guess

LaPurr In reply to WelshWench [2006-10-10 21:37:19 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, Gill! This is one of my images for the final assignment. I've used limited iterations, gradient transparency, averaged layers (with a few modifications) and small parameter changes to create this fractal.
Wow. I was actually paying attention!
I'd like to make a smiley for 'green with jealousy' just to have you use it one time with me!
Thanks for the nice words and the fav, I guess.

Thanks for the wonderful comment and the ego-stroking. (The check and the chocolate are in the mail, btw.)
I'm flattered that you would say those nice things, but it's just that I've been using this program for a while and have picked up one or two things. Add to that the fact that I'm taking a class on it right now and it all makes more sense.
I appreciate the kind words and the fav, you silly thing!

I say it as I see it Kat... "picking up things" is one thing, but having the talent and aptitude to apply those things is innate... and you have both in spades girlfriend!
back at ya!
