This piece was created as a commission for friends of the family (Who have already commissioned 3 pieces between their whole family!). It's a little guy, only about 10" tall, but is really thick.

About 4 hours in the hotshop and 3 hours in the coldshop.

5 part incalmo switch axis.

Are you asking about the parts done while it's hot? The parts done while it's cold? Or just the whole thing altogether?

so blow the parts, then work em cold to the right shape, then bring em back up and slap them together?

Not exactly... All the shaping and coloration is done hot. In the hotshop. Assemby included. The only thing done cold and later is the engraving. Are you looking for specific details about the processes? And also do you have any experience or knowledge with the process at all?

Okay. I just wasn't sure about what kind of experience you had with glassblowing... so before I wrote a 6 paragraph explanation I figured I'd see how much you know. Well, it's actually quite simple after you get them all together. You just create a new "hole" off-center and then attach a new blowpipe to that hole. Then once you transfer it to the new pipe, you close the hole where the old pipe was and continue shaping as though it's a new piece... Then as you blow up and shape the piece, the stripes naturally distort.

It's called a "switch axis."

At least that's what I was taught it's called.
