Description *Edit* Sorry for the repost... But I updated the image. This one has much better contrast.*

This piece is a lot more complex that it looks. It looked really bad when I was finished with it, so I cut off the top at an angle, polished it, and then added a battuto technique to the side.

It's a three hour piece. A cane pickup incalmo switch axis... After I battutoed the sides and cut the top it looked much MUCH better. I quite like it now!

It's about 16" tall

How ironic that you didn't even like it in the begining because now it looks spectacular. That's talent right there, making something beautiful out of something ugly. I love the name you chose too. Well done! Congrats!

Thanks! Yeah, I was so dissapointed when I first saw this piece. Because I'd worked so long on it... I'm glad it worked out in the end!

Hmm... I can't imagine how bad it was, because it looks mighty fine to me now. I just took a glass working workshop with Corradetti, and it helped me appreciate glass a whole lot better.

Thanks! YEah, I don't recall ever seeing any functional pieces as a DD before. Although this is also borderline sculpture I suppose. Kind of crosses boundaries.

thanks!

That's cool. yeah, lampworking is the much more easily accessible little brother of studio blowing! You dad does some nice work!

blackitten In reply to LaughingTree [2005-06-08 07:49:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. lol or whatever I meen I love his work.. I will have to put up something of his that I am wearing... a glass heart or spear shaped pendant.

I have seen studio and furnis blowing only on video, but it would be awesome to be watching it close up! I think I might get entranced too much haha.

This certainly is a beautiful piece. "Ugle Duckling"? As in ugly at first and then formed into this final result, a beautful creation. It's a such a calming object to look at. Has many forms of nature from my view; water droplet shape, fish scales, swirling strands of kelp or flowign fins... I also like the cutting at the top; if it was simply cut horizontally or funneled, it would not give off the same elgance as it does here. Beautiful job, aughing Tree. This is so pleasing to view. You have a lovely talent and you're good at it! ^_^

And when the kids saw the form on Sony's new PSP, few complained in such a manner as 'But that's . . . a gaming device. . . . '
What a fine design, and the hex 'texture' paired with the color and outside form allude me to the quenching thought of water. Carbonhazard, are you in industrial/materials studies?

CreamKit In reply to Yurtablemoron [2005-06-02 03:24:38 +0000 UTC]

Well I dunno what to tell ya, kiddo; no one gets anything unless they ask. I'm apologetic that the proper context hasn't been presented to you, or that you haven't gone to the resources already accessible to you. The only other thing is that your comment is dry; neither positive nor insulting, no one will weigh a mole of passion for the discussion of design with you.
