I'm sorry that I didn't give a lot of details about hair coloring, but if you have any question, feel free to ask me!!
My coloring is not the most detailed, nor them most complicated, but as some of you asked me to, I did a simple coloring tutorial
DOWNLOAD TO FULLY VIEW IT XD may help you
I hope is at least a little useful

You open the file with a texture you downloaded from the internet, copy it and paste it above all the layers of your drawing. Then you choose the "overlay" mode and press ctrl + u to play with the colors of the texture layer. You can also play with the opacity of the layer itself :>
If you don't have any textures saved, try looking for "textures" here on dA. There are plenty, and pretty awesome.

what tools did you use the most for the coloring? ^^ I'm guessing the marker maybe?.... i have trouble giving things that gradient look.
And did you do the lineart by hand (pen tool) or use the line tool? thanks!
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to Kijo-tokoyonokuni [2010-02-20 14:41:12 +0000 UTC]
Nope, for the colors I use the brush. The thing is, in my computer, the brush kept on changing properties XD
If you want to do gradients, try with water tool or blur tool
But with some patience, you can do pretty nice gradients with the brush ;D
I do linearts with the brush tool as well XD
Most people use the pen tool, and I used it before. But the line (vector) tool makes it look sharp and edgy, so I prefer not to use vectors unless its strictly necessary XD
Tough, if you're a mouse user, go ahead and use some vectors

i got a question, how do you add textures in sai??
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to Ria-tan [2010-02-14 14:33:35 +0000 UTC]
you download the .png or .jpg image (or make it yourself) and you add it on a separate layer in your drawing. You set the layer mode in "overlay" and you play with the hue and contrast, and saturation and brightness (in the "filter" menu)

Two questions-
First- How do I hide a layer?
Second- How do I add a texture?
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to ii-Miku [2010-02-02 14:17:35 +0000 UTC]
there is a little eye showing in each layer. You click on it, and the layer hides!
That's a little more coplicated.
You download a .jpg or .png image from the internet. Open it in another file, copy it, paste it over your drawing and choose they layer mode as "overlay"
Then, play with the hue~

ii-Miku In reply to Leaglem [2010-02-02 21:28:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! You've reeeeally helped!
Also one more thing -Sorry-
How to you filter colors and with line art how do I fade the sketch? :3
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to ii-Miku [2010-02-02 22:14:01 +0000 UTC]
You go to the sketch layer and lower the opacity (just above the layer options)
Filter colors? there's, in the main menu, an option that says "filter" (next to "window" , "view", selection" etc... )
You choose "Hue/saturation" and you play with the bars XD

Helpful o: Btw how do you add textures in SAI?
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to chocolatemango [2010-01-14 14:57:51 +0000 UTC]
You download the image from dA, or any other internet site, open it with SAI, copy it and paste it over the layer you want the texture in. Put the layer in "overlay" mode. Then you can follow different steps:
- If you want it to be JUST on the layer below, you use "layer clip"
- If you want it to be all over the drawing, just place it above all layers!
Now, you can play with the opacity, contrast, saturation and hue of your texture layer until it looks okay
I know I suck at explaining, but if you have any other doubt, please tell me!

Wow, cool~ but I think using the magic wand would be easier..
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to AikiYukii [2009-08-12 14:26:23 +0000 UTC]
yeah, it seems like so, but with the magic wand you have to select and then color. Here, you color directly XDDDD
I've tried using it, but I still prefer this way LOL, anyway, there are LOTS of ways of achieving the same, right?? XDDD
π: 0 β©: 1
AikiYukii In reply to Leaglem [2009-08-13 07:30:42 +0000 UTC]
Yeah... I prefer using the magic wand though, when u color, do u use the Multiply button??
π: 0 β©: 1
Leaglem In reply to AikiYukii [2009-08-13 13:06:49 +0000 UTC]
nope XD hardly. I dont change the blending when the lineart is digital. When the lineart is traditional, I put the lineart layer (only that one) in multiply mode, so you can see the colors beneath XDDD
