Beautiful eve, o, heav’nly night,
Garden of Eden, in darkness, is no more
Than a still, empty sight
Which, with each breath I take, right here where I stand,
I see not in her eyes as in a calm gentle bay,
The glimmering and reflecting which I most adore
But now seems so far away.

To just see her face I will
Surrender my life for you to surrender dim light
Of the moon and the stars of the skies
Which I once dreamt of when young,
Just in the utmost spite
Of the song darkness sung.

‘Twas once ev’n the thickest layer of shadow cast
Could not soften the brightness that did shine;
Each gleaming ray never the last
To illuminate her soul her, her heart, her eyes,
Just as in days of marvel, days of water into wine,
A twinkle, which could lead, to salvation, a flock of three men wise.

Yet ev’n the most lustrous of
Stars can only wish upon one another to emulate
The glisten and gleam, and as she gazes at clear skies
The stars themselves gaze
Down with the same awe, a freeze of time to transfixate,
Staring, gazing, without a breath of night wind,
She uplooks at the stars through the night haze
And with utmost envy they stare back and into her eyes.

Now show yourself, moon, and shine borrowed light;
Let not the earth revolve in the darkness, but with a subtle gleam,
And light up the eyes that shine with a beauty of which the stars may only dream
Of on high, above the horizon intersecting the land from the night.
You must overcome, shed light on dark’s veil,
Shine o’er the darkness and block out the mundane,
The bleakness of shadow and of shade and of bane;
Now show yourself, moon, let not dark conquer, light fail,
For it is only in her eyes that darkness may never prevail.
