ha, I like these birds. they're so funny. They kinda remind me of miniature emus or something like that. Are there any of these birds near where you live?

Only in the zoos and probably in the native bush somewhat to the north (like a few hours drive and then a few many more hours hiking). They're pretty rare - I've certainly never seen them.
I'll be drawing some weka pictures soon - wekas are similar is colouration and flightlessness to kiwis and I am sure some folks mistake them for them - even though they look nothing alike really. I found several lovely weka photos labelled "kiwi.jpg". Wekas are excessively cheeky and rather more prevalent, although still not common.

The build reminds me more of a moa than a kiwi. Fluffing up the neck probably would have fixed that. I assume the ferns and stuff are silver foil/pen n__n?
