I actually had fun drawing this one. I have always been a HUGE fan of the original Jack Kirby version of the Fantastic Four.

Ben Grimm's actually one of my favorite superheroes of all time. I just love how grumpy he always is, even when the bad guys have him against the ropes.

It has been reported that Jack Kirby considered Ben to be his alter ego. The Thing's mannerisms and mode of speech were the same as Kirby's.

So that's why he was the Thing in that "What-If" story where the Marvel Bullpen got the Fantastic Four's powers.
