this is the wedgetail eagle and his keeper - i think he loved her.he was so affectionate to her. remarkable. i think from memory they had only been training together for a short time - a few months.
this was my fave photo from the day.
* so many comments have stemmed from this one image. really moving words that make me so proud to be able to share the image with you.

yeah, she and the bird are both from Whiteman park (well Caversham Wildlife park, but it moved to inside Whiteman Park, which is a national park)

Birds, Even Rapters, Can be very very affectionate. They imprint easily (the reason why most "scheduled for release birds" are away from human contact as much as possible.
But as for the picture. So so so so sweet! I absolutely love it! A very big "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW" escaped me. The moment you caught was perfect. I'm definately faving this!

Well I've had a lump in my throat for the last hour. Don't know how else to explain how seeing this picture affected me.
I wonder how they formed such a close bond. Just goes to show that trust and kinship can cross all boundaries.
